what size hole to drill for 1" bulkhead

For a standard sched 40 bulkhead, 1.75". Heavy duty sched 80 bulkheads are larger and can vary from mfgr to mfgr.

I agree with sjm817. To be honest I would buy the bulkhead first and measure the outer diameter. It is always better to match the hole to the bulkhead than to try the other way IMO.
