Confused?
I am kind of confused as to what and how much I should be adding to my tank. I have a 24 gallon Aquapod with mostly soft corals. I am not seeing the type of growth I would expect. I would like to know what supplements people are adding and how much and how often. Any help would be grealy appreciated.

How long has the coral been in your tank?

With soft corals there really are no additives that might stimulate their growth.
However some soft corals do feed from the water column. You may want to consider phytoplankton or cyclopeze in addition to what you're feeding now.

How old is the tank? What species of corals do you have in it?

Detritus and fish poop drift around with the current and feed coral.

tests as of 1/04/08 Ca>480ppm, I'm bringing it down dKH=9, ok PO4=0ppm, ideal 1/06/08 after a water change Ca= 480ppm, still a little high pH= 8.2, I'd like it at 8.3 NO3= 10ppm, acceptable |

The tank has been set up for about nine months. I do use phytoplankton, reef roids and cyclopeeze. I just am not too sure as to how often I should be using these products. I have a variety of corals.

Do you have enough light? And how about the lighting's spectrum?

Do you have any test kits?

Is the light splash shield clean? I often get salt buildup on my cube and it reduces light to the corals dramatically. How are your nitrates / ammonia? Are the corals stressed or just not growing?
My stock tank is newer than yours and most of my corals are growing like weeds. I don't even feed phyto or cyclopeeze. |

if you really want to see growth in those corals feed them meaty foods...most with the exception of the leather will all accept brine and mysis shrimp...
your lights need to be in the 10-14oooK range to get good growth...with good, brand bulbs. you will also want to check your calcium and alk and magnesium...even though these are soft and LPS corals they still need the above... you will also want to make sure the rest of your parameters are stable...especially PH and specific gravity....trates should be low and the rest undetectable...(ammonia, nitrite, phosphate)

What is your circulation like? Water flow sweeps away the coral's wastes that they extrude and brings to it nutrients and oxygen.
