I am looking to get either the 150 or the 250 series, a little overkill but room for upgrading later!

Are you talking about the ones that are like a wet/dry filter and protein skimmer in one?

If you are going to have a reef tank, I would not get this product. The liverock will be more than enough biological filtration to keep the tank healthy, making a wet/dry unnecessary. Wet/drys will only acumulate detritus and lead to a buildup of nitrates.

I've never heard of this product even being used before really, and I've never used it myself, but I can say that there are some NICE skimmers out there, and I doubt that this is going to be one of them.

Look into an AquaC or a Euroreef.

NO this is not one of those, the skimmer yes, but not the wet dry. It is the skimmer alone!

Yeah, sorry.
I did a search and found an aquaclear wet/dry with a built in skimmer. A few minutes after I posted I found the exact model(s) that you were talking about.
I have never heard anything about these skimmer - I can't even find a place that sells them. Where did you see/hear about these skimmers, and how much do they cost?

i have an AC 350 on my 125G, i'm happy
with it. i removed 2 bakpak IIR's (which
skimmed well) & replaced with the 350,
it took out 2-2 liter bottles full of good
skimmate in the first 2 weeks.

Awesome, I really appreciate everyone's input, you can buy these at www.globalpets.com, I am paying $115.00 for my 150, they don't sell the 250's though!! This is the absolute best price I found. You think that a 150 will be alright for my 55 gallon?

I have the following model and love it:

Aqua Clear Aquatics Motorized 150 Gallon Protein Skimmer.

I paid $105 with Free Shipping for it along on Ebay.

Brand new Aqua Clear Aquatics Motorized 150 Gallon Protein Skimmer. This is a large skimmer, perfect for those larger saltwater and reef aquarium setups. The dimensions for are 22T x 4D. This skimmer comes with a CAP 1800 pump. The CAP 1800 pump delivers approximately 600gph to power the skimmer. It is easy to install with complete instructions and a manufacturer's LIFETIME WARRANTY against materials and defects in workmanship. This skimmer is rated for aquariums up to 150 gallons. The skimmer is venturi driven, and features a counter-current design, which promotes maximum air-water contact time. It also features an adjustable PVC return valve, allowing easy fine tuning of the water level inside the skimmer.
