Livestock limitations - stock 24 nano-cube?

My stock nano-cube has been running for a few months and it is progressing nicely. It has zoa's, a few softies, a free birds nest frag, and an orange monti plating coral.

The monti seems to be doing well. The birds nest is so-so. It has some new growth, but the white on the tips is starting to progress down the branch.

The birds nest was an experiment, but as I am looking for more and more corals I am curious what are the livestock limitations of a stock 24 gallon nanocube? (2x36W PC lights)

What would you not put in a 24 nc?

It's now an all SPS tank. The picture above was about a year ago under stock lighting, switched to the 108W nanotuners hood then finally the Sunpod and all SPS.

Those corals were all sold over time.

Pictures of how it looks now are in my photobucket account, just click on the little red house to get there

collinadam that tank looks great! How did your acans respond to the light? Eventually I would like to get an australian import or two, but didn't want to spend $50-100 to have them die from poor lighting.

Did you put anything in the tank to have it whither away?

The acans are great under this light. With acans the best thing for them is feeding them mysis from a turkey baster.

The only thing I had that didn't do well was a Gorgonian. You can see a bit of it, the yellow branch on the left side. I didn't have enough light for that.

Here's a picture of a Red Acan Lord, Red Blasto & Green/Orange Acan Echinatia I had under the stock lights, I kept them in the sandbed and it did great and kept it color. The pink favia lost it's color but a friend ended up with it and it ended up looking good.

I was born and raised in Urabana, family still lives down there. Are you a townie also or did the U of I bring you there?

Again that is a nice tank. I'm glad to hear they respond well to this lighting.

Based on your experience I decided to purchase a couple frags from someone who is tearing down their tank. A few softies and even LPS. I'm very excited!

The university brought me here. I grew up in a small town in Iowa and went to graduate school at Iowa (go Hawkeyes) for a few years and then moved here for graduate school. I'm liking the U of I and Urbana so far.

Any advice for a newbie at UofI / UC?

La Bamba - Burritos as big as your head.
The best Pizza joint in town is on Neil, close to Neil & Kirby, can't think of the name.
Jimmy Johns is always great and I can't believe how his buisness is expanding since he franchised. I worked at an A/V Store and he was a customer of ours, jerk would drive up in his red ferrari
Best nightspot was Highdive when I was there (except when they booked Vanilla Ice's rock band for a gig that thankfully got cancelled).
Turns into a ghostown when the students are away, not a lot to do in the area, that's why I moved away

You'll have to get some pics of your new corals when they get settled.

Well the corals are not settled, but here is a pic of them in q.t.

There are:
orange zoa's
trumpet coral
some LPS (brain?)
and I believe those are hairy mushrooms, or some type of softy

I already moved 2 softies into the tank. Sorry I don't know the names of anything besides the zoa's

A closeup of the anem on the rock in the picture. Right under the softy you can see a black/white striped *something*. It looks like a slug, but moves much too quickly. Not sure on the I.D. yet.
