Blue coralline?

Having just upgraded my 46 bowfront with new lighting, and I moved my live rock into the new tank.

After a few weeks I noticed what looked like blue coralline growing on one of my rocks..

It's not slimy, or has bubbles on it. The small ones you see is from my annoying skimmer putting bubbles in places the flow isn't high enough. It also doesn't wipe off, and it feels exactly like the red and purple coralline I also have in my tank..

I have it growing in small spots around my tank, but on this rock it has seemed to gone nuts.

I've looked at it with a flash light, and with the blue lights off, and it still appears blue. A lighter blue perhaps but still a very definitive blue.

So have I hit the reef keepers jackpot? Or have I just been stuck with something else that will end up annoying the living crud out of me in the coming weeks..

Thanks for your help!

You could try and scrape a piece of and drop it in vinegar or another acid - If it is calcified it should bubble

That looks neat. Let us know if you find out what it is. Blue coralline would be awesome to have in a tank to help breakup the green / red / purple coralline.

I'll be watching this one!

Well The bad news is that 90% of the rock turned back to Purple.. But the good news is that 10% is still blue and seems to staying that way..

I have a small patch of blue coraline in my tank as well. I never got a good picture of it though. I wish it would spread and make my rocks pretty

I have a patch of blue coralline growing on my back wall where a Tunze 6100 hits it hard. It's possible it grows in ultra high flow areas.
