The return is in the center and then I am going to tee it off to the fuge.

Thanks!

I was planning on part of the overflow going into the fuge and then the fuge draining into the skimmer section then all of that into the return.

Is there an advantage of diverting part of the return into the fuge? If so, what is it?

I have yet to build my sump but don't want to build a second best model.

Thanks
Keith

I copied a design by Melev. I think the reason for it is no micro bubbles in the fuge.

I'm not sure is this is why Melev does it but I have a seperate fuge because I want a lower flow gowing through my fuge than my sump. It's good you teed it because you can control it seperately.

I think thats the only reason to tee it off, and a damn good one.

gkarshens,

Nice find on the MH setup. Only $229. Good deal. Since you are budget minded just like me, I thought I should mention Workhorse Ballasts. Not sure if that's what you were looking into but they sell the cheapest E Ballasts I have seen. Here's a link: http://www.fulham.com/afbal.php

Also, your sump design is perfect. I have a 20 Long in the garage that is destined for the exact same layout under my 58. However, my bottom of the line stand only has a few extra inches under it. I wil just sanction a portion of the closet for "fish crap" as my wife calls it. Coming along nicely.

I forgot that lower flow was the other reason. Thanks!

Thanks for the link. I couldn't find any prices though and I couldn't find anything to do with MH bulbs. Is this just for the ballast?

Yes. They make only the ballasts. Just another option I thought you should see. http://www.prolighting.com/woba.html

They sell them. I did see MH ballasts by fullham I thought. Maybe confused. Just a thought.

I'm trying to decide on a sump design for my 125. Can you give me a few more details on what you are putting into each section? Thanks.

The left section is where the overflow will come in. I will also run the skimmer in there. The middle will be the return, which I will tee of with a ball valve to the right area which will be the refugium. The pump I am going to be using for the return does about 600GPH.

By the way:

Don't you think 600 gph is kind of low?

Are you going to run a closed loop?

If so, what pump and equipment?

Is it? If so, why?

I am running a closed loop on an 1100 GPH quiet one with a SCWD. Here is a pic of the building of that.

With the CL that's about 13 times turn over, that will be great!

Yeah, but it loses about 20% with the SCWD so I will also have a few power heads for additional flow. I have a Hydor Flo for one of them so it rotates flow.

I don't really have high flow in the tank at all but my return is 1800GPH, I have a SEIO 1100GPH and I'm adding another SEIO 820GPH.

I see. But if all I need the return for is to, well, return the sump water, won't 600 Gph be enough?

You can think of it that way or you can think of it as the amount of water that is making it to all of your filtering equipment, a closed loop just recirculates water

Huh. I didn't think of it that way. Maybe I will have to rethink this pump. I got a killer deal on it though. Maybe I can resell it for a profit.

I just calculated the Gph from liters and figured out that it is actually 700 GPH. So that's a little better.

started Fri. laying wood floors in the room where the tank is going to go. Let me just say I know why they charge so much to put them in! What a PITA!!! Should finish today. I'll post a pic when they are done. After that I can move the stand in!

Good to hear!

I poured concrete into a backroom this weekend to level the floor, it used to be a porch. Talk about a lot of work.

Ok Keith, I just drilled a test hole in a piece of 1/4" glass and was successful. I guess I may just go for it and hope for the best!
