Cucumbers that can live without fine sand?
Hey Everyone,
So I kinda want to get a cucumber in the future. However I dont have sand in my tank, I have a fine to medium-fine crushed coral and shell mix. I didnt get it from a store, I have a friend who worked for a Prof (raising percs) at a university give me 50lbs of live stuff. She has a very happy black cucumber in her 125g tank with this substrate but I wanted to ask here before I did anything crazy. Is there a cucumber that would be happy with that substrate in a 33g tank? It would be more for show then as part of a cleanup crew, if that makes any difference Thanks! Dave

I think that size tank is a bit small for a sand-sifting cucumber, but I might be wrong. You might get away with it. I've tried in a 29g tank, and they haven't seened to get enough food. Hard to say.
