OT: Occupations...

So I've noticed that there's an overabundance of computer-related professions listed. I personally do mostly UNIX/Cisco admin, with a bit of development (.NET, PHP, /bin/sh, C, in that order) when I need the extra money.

Is there a reason (other than computer folks are more likely to sign up for a message board) that so many so cal reefers are in the software industry? Lust for power and desire to control the universe, perhaps?

Maybe a few things combined? IT folks tend to have disposable cash, spend all day at "work" in front of a computer, and if anyone needs a break from using their analytical right brain all day, it's geeks!

dolphin-safe tuna is my gig, with exception of some occassional official travel, I am data crunching in front of a computer daily, so I can ping RC regularly.

the technical aspects of hobby appeal to certain personalities, while others like biology.

my profession, biology and tech comibine.

but all aspects of hobby, plumbing, electrical, tech, biology, etc make it appelling to diverse cross section of people.
that is what I enjoy most about meeting fellow reefers.

It is rather nice being the network admin, and having control of the office firewall, and blocked internet sites

I suck.

I'm still working on my BA in Industrial design. But I'm already and most likely to end up as just a big geek.

Windows admin here...Computers are my gig, I know and understand the value of the online community. I understand how to use the internet to find information and thats how I got here.

I would guess that we as geeks use the net more than average joes.

Rubberman

for old cars.
Since my business is mainly mail order and not walk-in sales I sit at my desk all day with the computer on answering the phone and most times RC is open.

I just had my FAT old (been with me about 1.5 years now) Mandarin Goby die... I have no idea why he died... maybe he ate himself to death. He was FAT FAT FAT. I worked really hard to keep an enourmous pod population for him as well. So it pretty much so sucked when he passed away. Sorry to hear about your loss, but I think sometimes fish just die.
