So can I play too? I know my little tank won't hijack Tim's thread...but since he didn't title it "my dec 07 tank pics" I figure he is looking for us to play along since he mention he wanted to see more club tank pics.
The camera is a nikon coolpix that is beat all to hell and about 3 years old. It has the extened lens that gets in the way of the flash for the macro shots. A new one is on the xmas list... 09/08/2007 09/10/2007 09/20/2007 Today...12/12/2007 Last edited by JJ4417; 12/13/2007 at 12:49 AM. |

From the last frag swap...
And... From YR... What's left...um...the stuff I picked up today. I had to work in Monterey. Thinking about the drive home, I figured I would make a quick stop in Union City to see what all the fuss was about. Brought these home... And one last one...just for giggles... |

Tim,
You always renew my passion for reefing everytime you update us on your tank. The mummy's eye piece is absolutely glowing in your tank & the Tyree watermelon underneath your pink lemonade totally stands out like pastel colors! You're going to have to give me a growth shot on that one. Great pictures & wonderful job at reefing. |

I know what you mean. You snap all those shots and then you have to process them only to find out that over half just aren't right. I snapped over 200 today after a waterchange. Only about 80 of them made it to the computer.

Tim- I have that same camera- shoot in RAW and then clean them up with the program that came with the camera or photoshop- you'll love the pics you can get. The 100mm macro lens does a real good job also.

joe - man, i gotta read that dang manual! i don't even know what mode its currently set to . it came with a double lens kit 18-55mm and 75-300mm. should i be using the longer lens for tank pics? i only use photoshop for resizing the images.

Try shooting in AV mode, set to F20 for depth of field, use manual focus instead of auto, on a tripod if possible, use the self timer or a remote for less vibration and the longer lens might be better but the cannon 100mm macro lens takes some sweet pics if you can get ahold of one. I sold my 100mm cus my tank is 48" deep front to back and it would not reach that depth for close ups on the corals in the back, so I am gonna go with the sigma 150mm. Throw up some more pics when you get a chance-edit those raw/AV mode pics in the cannon program, you'll be surprised how crisp they'll turn out

For digital photography editing, you can also try Adobe Lightroom. It's not as powerful as photoshop, but it's a lot easier to use. It's design to be used with digital photography. Retail cost is $299. Educational cost is $99.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photos...?promoid=BONSV Also - while you're at it, make sure you get a screen color calibration device of some sort. I have the Spyder 3 Pro. |
