Adding livesand

Ok I have had my tank BB and I just ordered live sand for it. Do I need to do anything special to put the sand in the tank? Do I just dump it in the tank and let it settle? The sand is pink extra fine live sand from drsfostersmith.com it comes in a bag of water. Do I drain it and rinse it then dump in tank? I thought about getting one of those long funnels and adding it slowly to the bottom to keep the cloud down. What do you guys/gals recommend? Please help. Thanks

I used live sand from Carib-sea and it states not to rinse it. Use it straight from the bag. I will say it took several days for the sandstorm to finally clear.

if it's not too late, cancel the LS, I'll explain.

Live Sand sold by any company it pretty much garbage, the only real benefit to LS is that it keeps the water clear when you add it.

Why:
"Biologically Active" means nothing really, I mean think about this for a minute...how does live sand stay alive sealed in a bag with no temp control, food or oxygen? All it has is cultured bacteria mixed with water and sand and with all the questions I mentioned before, you have to wonder "is it still alive?" I did some research with a friend and sent a sample (10lbs. bag) to a lab, tested for ANY live bacteria and it came back negative...really sucked when I found out.

So here's what I learned, if you want LS, you should probably use dry sand and a handful of LS from your LFS or a friends tank. In the end it's probably the most natural way to do it with LR. The only thing that';s time consuming would be washing the sand (hate it) and the only benefit to packaged LS is that it's wet and in stasis so when you add it to a tank, you get less cloudy water so your tank looks better quicker..patience is what keeps you sane in this hobby.

So why am I posting this tirade on packaged LS? Because my initial 125 was set up using 100lbs of the packaged stuff and 75lbs of dry, I paid alot of money for alot of nothing(not to mention shipping) so I try to make sure people understand what packaged LS really has to offer...no worms no denitrifying capabilities to break down nitrates...nothing really.

Anyway, enough rant, just some misc. info for those who are curious.
