Testing some water/water filters, anyone ever used this?
First of all I know this thing is practically a joke but it was on sale at petco's store closing for 10 bucks so I figured I'd give it a try and see what kind of effect it had on the water here in Athens. I just tested the tap and it came out around 380 ppm. I have to go to lowes to get a faucet adapter but in the mean time has anyone tried this thing?

my guess is that it is a mixed bed DI filter. depending on your water it'll probably last for about 30 gallons before it's exhausted.
if it's been on the shelf for a while even less than that.

So far it's pulling gunk out...wondering how long this thing will last. It's at 3ppm but I'll continue testing as I go...Should I add dechlorinator to my water first?

haha.... i used to have one of those for my tank when I was 14 or so. It worked.... ok for about 60 gallons or so. It has a color changing ability that you really can discern and the refill cartridges cost more than the original unit. But other than that great find! Well more from a memory standpoint than anything else.

55,
Like Szwab stated, these are essentially di resin. They'll do a great job for a very short period of time. Once exhausted, they are useless. Replacement resin cost 95% of a replacement unit. Your best bet is r/o with a post di. Good Luck peace------------------------------->

If you're not going to use it.... you could give it to rob.hollbrook on the thread since he's having an issue with RO unit and needs a DI for after.
