sps acclimation

i think my acclimation procedures are insufficient for some of my sps. so i would like to know how you sps experts acclimate sps to your tanks in general. does it matter how strong the light is in the previous location of the coral.

Most SPS i acquire come from vender's who have wild collected so they were used to the sun and my little Ole tank is hardly up to par with the sun so i don't do any sort of light acclimation. i pull the coral out of the shipping bag, hold it out of water for about 30 seconds to let it slime up and then put it in the tank, I've never had a problem doing it this way. when the polyps close they self acclimate when they reopen, no need for those drips unless you're one of those people who just like to have something to do.

Even corals that have been in bright light in nature, have not been in shipping. I believe in at least a week near the bottom with a gradual moving up. Of course if there is any indication of color changing in the piece I will move it up or down to compensate.

shipping has nothing to do with acclimation to lighting, nature has darkness (just like in a shipping box) and there are days when it's overcast or storming that there is minimal light into the water of the reefs, overnight shipping isn't much different, just like a storm, dark and bumpy.

dragon, i used to do the same acclimation process, until i got monti nudis, aefw, and redbugs.......i have since learned to dip everything in interceptor, and TMPCC. and inspect thouroughly.

hope this helps
take a little time dipping your corals, and it will save you time and money pulin every coral out and setting up a new tank for them to be treated in.

I do the same thing. All corals go into a QT tank before the main tank though.

I dip for about one hour in Fluke tabs 4 tablets in 5 gals, then I transfer into interceptor for another hour, then the tank. no light acclimation unless they are Deep water acros in which case I place them in the bottom for a few days
