ORP probe questions
I finally got my ORP probe today and hooked it up to my aquacontroller and its reading 137 in the tank. So I made some new water using coralife salt and tested it and its reading 180, but is climbing slowly up a point every few min. Shouldnt I be in the 375 range? Please help thanks.

Mine did the same thing when I first got it. Give it time and it will be fine.
And 375 without ozone is a good reading.

So is it always slow to read or just when new?

when new or moved to another system, it's pretty much instantaneous once acclimated to your system.

I guess I need to clear up, since im testing my newly mixed saltwaters ORP. When I switch back the probe to the tank will it take hours to get a reading?

|

no but it could take up to 10 or 15 min to acclimate to the tank.

My newly mixed salt water meaured around 220. My meter has continued to slowly climb since I got it several months ago. Mine started at 270, this morning it read 463 without ozone.

have you cleaned it? they also have to stay wet, letting them dry out will drastically shorten their life expectancy which is about 2 yrs otherwise.

ok well it is several hours later and not really any change as it is still reading 178. So what does this reading mean for me?

Read the instructions again, I think you are not supposed to have the ORP probe and the PH probe next to each other because of some kind of interference. If you don't have a PH probe then maybe something else is interfering with the readings.

corals b 4 bills: they are not even in the same body of water right now the ORP probe is in a bucket of new unused salt water.

Sorry, I never tried testing my probes in unused salt water before, I know that whenever I recalibrate my probes or buy a new one I expect the waiting period of a couple days for my readings to peak. my ORP always reads between 460 and 510 in my tank.

try dipping it in a small glass of vinegar, if it doesn't skyrocket then you've likely got a bad probe and need to exchange it.

My orp probe took 2 weeks to settle in after installlation. Works well now.

It took mine 2-3 weeks as well. If you get above about 350 w/o ozone, it's time to clean the probe.

I'm just curious to know why is my ORP always staying around 300 day and night. I'm not using ozone. The higher it went is around 330 during the day.
Is there a reason |

Yeah that I know. But what to get it climb? More aeration in the sump?
Just curious |

If you don't have ph compensation turned on your orp will change some with a ph change according to Neptune. IMO the absolute value is not as important as trends are. With time you should find out what your tanks normal range is.
