Shane, wanna see a change in the RED/GRAY?

First Week I got it from Geofloor

Then my tank crashed, so I set up a new tank. Here's what it became.

And Now.

Here is a top/down shot of the same piece. Isn't it beautiful? Looks like a bouquet of flowers.

hahahaha, you're funny. I haven't seen any red/gray turn into one like that before. Even Master Randy haven't seen it. The pink is pretty.

i love your collection! your ric wall is just too crazy...it's simply insane.
i was offered a frag of the tubs alien eye chalice for $75 bucks, at first i thought it was an insane price but looking at how yours grew over time it doesn't seem too bad.
great before and after coloration pics of the acans i have my under PC's since i heard low lighting is a turn on for them

I love this picture. Great job Vu. This is a fun thread to watch.

And yes, that pink you get from the red/gray is amazing. I think I give my Acans too much light to get those colors.

Snookums, thanks man, I remember looking at my friend's tank when I started. He has all these big rics and I wanted some, so I scrambled to find them. Now I have a wall of them, they're very pretty.

Randy, thanks bro. Eventhough I've never met you and you're across the country, I think you're a pretty cool guy. I've been following this Acan thing for 3+ years. I've read a lot of things and seen a lot, I think you're one of a few sane guys. OR INSANE.

I think you guys got me started on this crazy Acan thing, now all I have are acans. I even feed my fish to the acans.

Randy, I'm only using 2 250W 20K. I remember you said you tried 400W on them, how's that experiment going? I'm glad that people enjoy the thread, as it is a reflection of what I've seen here on RC from the fellow reefers. Actually, the SOCAL reefers are probably the coolest bunch of suckers around.

Hey,
I've actually kept my Acanthastrea collection under a 400 watt halide for a couple years now. There was a month when my tank busted where I kept them under PC's.
Recently, I've switched to 250 watt 20K's, with a single 400 watt in between them, but I've stopped running the 400, since a few of my other LPS are bleaching.

I've only burned one variety of Acanthastrea. They seem very tolerable of any lighting, but show off there colors best under lower wattage/high Kelvin bulbs.

Randy, aren't you on East Coast time? It's what 3 AM there and you're still posting.

I've had pretty good results so far with the 250W 20K. Now, I gotta work on the mounting of these guys. They outgrow the small rocks pretty quick. How's your batch of the other acan? Are they growing for you? This one has been almost a year now and still the same as it was when I got it. They eat, but no growth. Are there any tricks to get these guys to grow?

Your right, it was late. That was my last post for the night.

I've been running into a problem with my slow growing Acans. I know it may sound strange, but the frag rocks are getting covered with a thick coralline algae, and I think it's making it harder for the Acans to grow. One of my pieces has started produce new polyps that are not attached to the rock. The polyp has it's own skeleton that hangs off the end of the coral instead of encrusting down because of all the coralline.

I first noticed this a couple months ago on one of them, but now see it on another. I just cut the largest dangling piece off two nights ago, and I'll see if it attaches to another rock.
