I had some "Cycle" bacterial supplement left over from when the LFS conned me into buying it when I started a freshwater tank about a year ago. I wouldn't recommend using any of this stuff, as the bacteria it contains (if it is even still alive) aren't the true nitrifiying bacteria in aquaria (according to Dr. Tim Hovanec at Marineland -- read his articles from scientific journals). Anyway, I added 5ml of this garbage to my freshwater test tube and added the ammonia reagent. 2 ppm Ammonia in 5 ml of Cycle. If you dumped a lot of this into your tank, I would guess you could potentially kill off your fish. The ammonia is there, I suppose, to help start off the cycle in a new tank -- to give the bacteria something to start metabolizing. You really don't need this stuff anyway...the bacteria will establish themselves without it.

Don't you think you should have waited a while before adding new stuff? Especially a mandarin, of all things... your tank should be very mature with a good number of copepods living in it, else that fish will starve to death. Not trying to flame you or anything, but have some patience, man.

Bottom line....you added way, way too much of this stuff. You said earlier, the bottle stated you could put 15ml in 50 gallons, but you decided to dump the 'large' bottle in without even knowing the dosage. Have you done a water change yet????

I don't doubt it. I am suprised that inspite of all the advise and information available at this site, you continue to make impulsive mistakes...

Stop buying livestock until you know what is going on. Buying on impulse is doing no one any good but this misinformed LFS you keep fequenting.

Do a bit more research before you waste more money and fish...

Read Man, there is plenty of info out here, and maybe hook up with an experience reefer (not the idiot at the LFS) in the area if you can't do the research yourself...
