new frag has an aptasia what to do?

There is one small aptasia on a frag I got, should I try to chisel the rock in half and have 2 frags, and cut around the aptasia. Or is the one small one not going to be a problem? This is a new tank and I do not want to introduce something that may be a problem in the future. I have heard of people using joes juice etc, but I would like to remove the one and not have to mess with that, not to mention the frag was not expensive
Any suggestions?

you can cut around the aptasia. i personally have had luck with peppermint shrimps. the one i got ate the small and big ones out of my 40g.

that little one will become a problem. you will want to get rid of it. chip the aptasia off the frag.

i bought a few peppermint shrimp also.. and i don' see any aptasia... they are very cheap and don't really harm anything... i think i had like 2 come on a rock or somethign i bought... and thus bought like 4 small ones? anyways, i never got an outbreak and the ones that i saw disappeared... i know for some people peppermints don't work...

if it isn't too hard, just chisel it off... don't do it inside the display... i heard if you break up the aptasia, it will spread all over? if can't, just buy a small shrimp and go from there... chances are it will work...

Temporarily place the frag and a peppermint shrimp in a small container. This will hopefully increase the chances of the shrimp finding the aiptasia.

hahaha... that is a great idea... may be one of those netting side tanks? like the ones you put baby fish in and attach to side of tank?

Any sort of container should work as long as proper water flow is addressed. I've seen LFS do this to show customers that their peppermints have an appetite for aiptasia as well.

I think I can chip around it quite easily, peppermint shrimp will be an addition to the tank once its a bit more established. I have found shrimp not to be very hardy, at least cleaners for me.

Thanks for all the advice.

For the past 3 months or so,I've had an aptasia or two pop up here and there, after having none for 11/2 years. The ones where it's easy to get the rock out ,I use a knife and scrape the aptasia off and some of the rock. The other ones I have been injecting with vinegar and sucking off the rock or crevice when changing water...Has been working well so far!!
