The dreaded hair algae

has struck our tank. I have been skimmerless for 2 months now waiting on a custom skimmer and sump to be done. Even with some water changes and testing (nothing ever showed) I looked into the tank over the weekend and saw the ugliness.

Anyone have a sea hare or know where I can grab one? I will be attempting to rid this stuff naturally with more water changes and getting a skimmer back online, but any help at this point would be great.

I hate this crap and fought it years ago and my wife actually scrubbed every stinkin inch of rock with a toothbrush to get rid of it last time. I would hate to have to go through that again. Let me rephrase, my wife go through that again. Her idea as she said grab me the rocks, make new water, take care of the fishies and let me do my thing. Like mentioned before, she is a great wife, but I doubt she will do that again.

If I still had him maybe. That was from the old tank. Just liked him so much I kept it as my avatar.

Tang Food!
I have always been happy with Turbo snails also.
I believe the scarlet leg hermit crabs also work well. (mine get eaten)

There is another thread started about hair with several answers.. But just curious. how long ago did you get rid of the foxface and did you have hair algae while you had the foxface.

The foxface was purchased after the hair algae had been removed the last time. Not even sure they eat the stuff. I know my Tomini Tang does not eat it nor does my Algae blenny to answer the other question above.

My Foxface loves hair algae and wiped it out pretty handily ... now this other weird leafy algae I got it picks at but not with the same gusto as hair algae!

Todd, did you ever blow out the rock? If not could have a lot of junk in it causing the algae issue, just a thought.

Hey Bob,

yes I blow the rock out every week actually and especially when I do a water change. I spend 15 minutes or so before the water change doing it. I use a turkey baster for it.

If you've got a small power head, it really clears it out better than a baster. I used to use a baster after using a PH won't be basting any more. Like I said just a thought.
Post a pic of some of the algae, can you?

The tunze do a great job of that for me actually. I use the baster for the holes and crevices. I will try the PH too to see if it helps at all.

I am at work so no pics, but it is defenitely hair algae. Same crap I had last time.

I have a replacement G3 body I just picked up that will be put on tonight. Hopefully that will help. Although with the sale now, It didn't make much sense to buy it, but I want the tank kept at it's best until it is sold.
