**NEW frag swap date September 15th**

Hi everyone!

Just a quick FYI before people start soldifying days off, etc for the frag swap, the date has been changed to...

WHEN: Saturday September 15th 2007
TIME: 2:00PM
WHERE: THUNDER CANYON BREWERY
7401 N. LA CHOLLA TUCSON, AZ. 85741

RESERVATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE

Tommy (Colerphon) and I realize people have started making plans for that day off and we sincerely apologize for ANY inconvenience this might cause. We also realize that FRAG has their meeting the same day as we do this month. There was a mixup at TCB and we had to switch days, however, consecutive months (Oct, Nov and Dec) reservations have already been solidified so no future errors will be made on their part. Everyone will be getting the dates at the swap for Oct, Nov and Dec swap dates and we will be posting regularly on RC as well.

If you feel the need to contact us directly, please PM either one of us or email me at; Tangman1218@hotmail.com.

Thanks everyone and look forward to seeing a lot of people turn out for the swap! The list is being regenerated on this thread to avoid confusion. Please cut and paste starting from "Roll Call" on down to the last number so we can keep a more accurate count.

Possible demonstration

Hey guys I know there are some people that are interested in drilling their own tanks. I am bringing some brand new diamond bits that will fit 1" and .5" bulkheads to sell in the auction. I was also thinking that if anyone is interested I can hold a quick how to demo on the actual procedure. Since this is a public place I wouldnt actually be able to drill the glass due to the annoying noise, but I can show how to get everything set up and ready for the actual drilling. Let me know if this is something that would be of interest.

Thanks,
-Tommy

^I'd be curious to learn more about that. If not on the 15th, then at one of our swaps.

Also, Tommy, I'll buy a small quantity of photoplankton if you've got any ready to go.

Many have already seen the frag grab bag post, but if not, check it out. This is a really cool way to get a new specimen for your tank. So jump in on the fun!

Sarah, are you blonde?!

Tommy please bring some phyto for me too. Does it need refrigeration? If should probably bring extra for sale or auction. Also, please email me the logo and stuff I would like to see it.

I highly recommend that we get some pictures of the auction items online. Since this is at a restaurant, we may not have the flexibility of viewing all the corals. It is best if we can see a picture of the item for sale.

Who is running the auction and what foramt are we using? I would be happy to do it and I have a computer this time, just let me know. If we do this more frequently and the turnout is larger, we should consider using different auction tools and methods.

Also, for the newcomers that will be coming, should we post the rules for the auction here?

Hey guys,

Sorry I havent posted recently, I had a family member pass away this last week and things have been hectic.

This next swap will be a good chance to hammer out some guidelines for the swap(s). I have several items I wish to address as I am sure some of you do as well. I'll be bringing a notepad to keep track of things that will be important to our group. As I said initially, there may be some things certain people wont like, but decisions have to be made and we need to stick to them. Of course, certain guidelines will morph as we go along and thats going to be a part of stretching as we grow. Its been said in the past that Tucson cant have a formal club. I think we can and we all want to make this as successful as possible.

With that said, Scott, since you have auctioned before and want to continue to do so, I say go for it. If ZoaKeeper wants to do this as well, perhaps this is something you both can do as a team to speed the auction(s) along. It would also be a good idea in case one of you cant attend a certain future meet. It has been brought to my attention by some past attendees that it would be nice to have the auctions towards the beginning of the swaps. Perhaps it is something we can do quickly by selling items for the first 1/2 hour of the swap and auction the second 1/2 hour and the rest of the time can be spent talking and building relationships. This way, if someone cannot hang around to the very end, they wont have to do so. Mull it around and let me know what you guys think.

So that this doesnt become long winded, I will address more when we meet. However, if you want to PM me or ask a direct question here, please do so. If it seems as though I am trying to take charge here, please remember I am only trying to lead the group and have successful swaps. I look forward to meeting more new people!

Tang

*quick edit*
I will be bringing a 24" PC light to view the corals under. For future meets. I hope to bring a MH setup to ongoing swaps, but for now this will have to do. And just an FYI, we have been cleared to view all corals.

We have been lacking a lead person, so if you are willing to do it then that is great.

People really come for the auction. If you do it first, people will leave right after that. I have seen it work best when you set an event time say 2pm, then auction time, say 2:30 or 3pm. That gives people a chance to mingle, look over the auction items and sort things out befor the auction.

We try our best to cash people out that must leave early and no one to my knowlege has complained about that aspect of the auctions. It is a pretty user friendly system.

I think 230-300 is a good time to start the auction. Dont get me wrong Scott, no one I have spoke to is complaining, just that they would like the auctions to move a little more quickly and I think if two people are running the auction (one to auction and one to record and cash out), things will flow better. Like you said, this will give time for people to view and decide what they want to bid on. Sorry I wasnt a little more clear in the last post

I am going to contact TCB this afternoon and let them know we are expecting about 25 people. Remember that we will have a server or two, so if anyone wants to order food and/or drinks, we will have someone doing that. Appetizers are great and I think are on a happy hour pricing system, I'll check on that when I call. No one has to order anything, but let's try to support them a little since they are hosting us for free!

Tang,

By any chance do you think TCB has wireless? It would seem like a longshot, but at the last swap, some of us benefited by the ability to quick search corals we were interested in.

See you on Sat.

This was a great location, we were isolated from the rest of the restaurant, had plenty of space, and were well cared for by the TCB staff. I think this spot will be good for about 10-15 more people. Did anyone get a headcount? It seems there were about 20 people there.

We started at 2pm and I left at 4:30. The location was very effecient too. Thanks to everyone, especially Dave and Colleen for helping with the auction and to Jess for the arrangements.

For those who won a door prize, please let me know what you think of the screensaver. I also have one with local reef tank pictures made with the same program. I have handed it out at previous events, but I think most of this crowd is new and have not seen it. Is there any interest to bring more next time?

I had fun!!!
