better hope you dont want to add anymore fish, and you better get a bigger tank and fast

mine went from 3" to 6" in 3 months and is a MONSTER to anything he doesnt like, ive tried 4 times to rearrange the rock and to reintroduce him into my 125 display and he just cant get along with my male bluethroat trigger, so he is going to a different home and he was replaced my a male juvie vlamingii tang and after the juvie gets bigger i will be adding a baby clown tang once i upgrade my tank in a year

I agree. I don't have one, but everyone that does say they grow fast. They sound like they are one of the fastest growing ones. I think once they hit that 6 or 7" mark they will start getting their real aggresion showing unless you have a 8' long tank maybe or larger. You may be ok for a while longer if you don't have any other large fish or tangs in the tank, but I guess in a 6' tank when they get that 6 or 7" mark they just pace the tank.

If you feed the heck out of them, they seem to see the other fish as less of a threat and will be less aggressive. Unfortunately, if you feed them that much, they could/will grow 2 inches a year and will need a 300G+ tank really soon. Also, you can pollute your reef by feeding them that much.

Had a large one in a 180 with an Annularis. I figured the angel could handle him since she was the most aggressive fish I had ever seen- had taken out large puffers, wrasses, lions, you name it. That 10" sohol beat the devil out of her, and was quickly moved to a new home. Beautiful fish, very very active fish, but Very aggressive- and it only gets worse as they mature.

unfortunately my experience was not good either.i put a 4 inch sohol in a 180 and after a year it started racing around the tank fighting with whatever fish was not hiding at the time.a few weeks later it started snapping acro branches off the larger stags in the tank from racing around and smashing in to them.it was about 7 inches with streamers when i trapped it.traded it to LFS for a pail of salt.nasty fish.i do not recommend them unless they are the only tang in a very large tank.

My sohal tang is absolutely beautiful. But I better watch out if I stick my hand in the tank. The guy is a bastard and I have a scar on my hand to prove it!

How big of a tank is the sohal in swimboy for an example maybe, and any other large fish in the tank? I would think his 150 would be OK for a little while anyway until he grew to 7"

How big is your sohal?

Ya, a powder brown and a yellow. The yellow was really aggresive even though I put them in at the same time. I separated him in 1/4 of the tank using eggcrate for a week. At this time, when they looked at each other thru the eggcrate, the yellow didn't back up into the eggcrate with his tail or flare anymore, so I removed the eggcrate. If your sohal starts that, you could try that. About that above post, I think it is probably different in which one you get. The video on reefvideos.com on the top left, he has 7 or so tangs in his 150 4' long tank and 1 being a sohal. He mentions the most dominate ones in his tank and he doesn't say sohal at all, and he hand feeds them algae in the video. He was a small sohal too, though, compared to the others he had in there.

Go to reefvideos.com and check out the 150g video. Top left, it is pretty amazing.

I know...,all the reading I've done on Sohals say that this should be the only tang in your tank. Go figure.

I have a 3" Sohal in QT right now. This is my 2nd Sohal. The first was a 4". He got ich in QT, medicated with copper, then died after 1 month in my display. He went from fine to dead within 24 hrs. Many suspect a collision with my 9" volitans lionfish.

He was not aggressive toward any of my fish (that I observed anyway). I have a 6" Harl Tuskfish, 4" Emperor Angel, 9" Lionfish, and 1" Yellowtail Damsel. If anything, he took a beating from my 6" Harlequin tuskfish in the first 2 days. After that, they were totally ok with one another.

IMO..a 150 is too small for this fish. Even if you are succesful, at some point you're probably going to have to move him to a bigger tank. That's my plan. Luckily I have our state aquarium nextdoot that is happy to accept my donations!

One of the guys near me has one in a 10ft 450g tank.

In both of our oppinions, the tank is too small for the fish. Hes about 8" now, and has killed quite a few other fish. Nasty nasty fish.

IMO, theyre not fit for home aquariums.

I guess Nebraska gets the nice Sohals, I have a 10" Soahl in a 240gal with no problems other then eating over half the food put into the tank. I have him with a Purple, Sailfin, and Tomini tang for 2.5 years now. I also have seen a Sohal here in town thats been in a 210gal for 7 years with 3 other tangs for over 7 years now. But maybe my fish is weird he hasn't killed any other fish in my tank although I have seen him eat a peppermint shrimp and he completely decimates the hair algae in the tank to the point I have none.
