To the Eco mod owners...Ive heard of fellow reefers that there eco mods started to have problems correcting themselves on startup when connected to a wavemaker....Is this a growing problem?

i've figured out what happens...the robber endcap melts. the stopper relies on the rubber in order to function so with the rubber disintigrating a little bit the stopper actually spins itself. thats why i'm trying to contact the makers to find out if I could get it replaced. again...does ecotech make the eco mod?

EcoSystem Aquarium® is the listed manufacturer but I noticed the page for the mod has been removed.

Are you referring to this end cap shown here on the right?

I kinda had a feeling that this thing would be a potential point of failure.

yes...you know how there rubber if you try and spin it has some resistance...well after on off on off the rubber melts a little and looses its resistance which allows that whole top piece to spin...aka the stopper just spins with the propeller. it was awesome while it lasted, but only lasted for about 1 day. i'm trying to contact somethings fishy, but they won't answer the phone! urgh!

and on a side note...one of the "flaps". "blades" whichever you call them...broke off. so now instead of two theres only one. it still works, but probably doesn't push anywhere near 1600 gph any more.

Well... That answers that one for me about the EcoMod. Guess I won't be getting one to try out any time in the near future.

i was using it in a diy wavebox. 1 second on...1 second off. didn't think it would hold up...so wasn't expecting too much. I'm going to try and mod it a little to see if I can get it to withstand the on off on off motion. if it was put on a normal wave timer...1 min on...1 min off I think it would be safe. I was basically abusing it!

one of mine did this. I have 2 of them both on MJ1200. This same one actually broke off one of the little tabs that fix the prop onto the magnet section. Nothing a little super glue couldnt fix, but the startup it kinda noisy at times when it hits the stopper. This is the older of the two by a fiew weeks. Oh well, cheaper than a tunze and good flow.

UPDATE:

Got the new prop from sureflow today, install it on my maxijet 1200. The new prop is the same as the 3004.

The flow is incredible, just as much or more than my tunze 6100 and the patern is wider. The pump is absolutely quiet and the mount allow me to angle it in more angles. So far, I love this improvement. I think we got a winner.

I knw that the props are not interchangeable but, as long as they are using the right prop, then it doesn't realy matter. Although, I think it can be mod easily if one want to

Will have pictures soon.

Trying to get the best one, at the first try around, so can use everyones opinion.

I doubt the new Sureflow will be better than the GS2 per se. Especially not if they are using the same propeller (re: Dumas 3004)

And yes I too think that a MJ1200 spinning the large Dumas will put out more flow than the Tunze 6100

dhnguyen,

Did you have trouble contacting Triton Aquatics in regaurds to purchasing some high flow GS2's. I have sent 2 e-mails to them and I have not recieved a response. What's the best way to buy a couple of them? I'd like to get them sooner then later

Have anyone using these on the Seio controller yet ? if any of these can run on a good controller then that would give Tunze a run for their money.

Yes a buddy of mine uses one on a SEIO controller and his works fine. I have even known people who run these mods on just simple timers and they work fine as well albeit some startup noise sometimes when the prop spins in reverse and has to be corrected.

Frankly I think controllers are overrated and don't really do squat except maybe some aesthetic value (re: back and forth wave movement in a tank)

dhnguyen,

I also have sent two emails to Triton Aquatics over the last two days and haven't heard back. Can you send me some info also?

And do you happen to know the smallest time interval the maxijets can be safely pulsed on and off?

Thanks.
