Solaris & Oceanic 30?
I have an Oceanic 30 gallon cube (20x18x20tall) that I have been thinking of setting up. Considering a Solaris 14" I-series. Stocking would be polyps, softies, some LPS and I would like to keep a clam. Is this going to provide enough light? The 14" only has one bank of LEDS vs. 2 or more in all the longer ones. Worried I might spend a grand and find out its not enough. Should I stick with the 175W MH I had planned?
So....chime in all you Solaris lovers and haters. Thanks reefers, Mark |

Uh, I would go with the 175 MH bulb myself. If you've got an extra $700 bucks laying around and want to play with the solaris then by all means feel free. They are probably roughly equivalent in terms of light output from what I've read but there's a lot of variables that I do not know so it's hard to say for sure.

Well actually I was thinking I could save $350 by not needing a chiller.
MH $250 (at least) Chiller$350 Total $600 Solaris $950 This makes the insanely expensive Solaris $350 more than the MH setup. Still expensive, still considering but not yet sold. |

I ran a 250DE over a 30G Oceanic in a canopy for over a year and never had problems with temp.

Mark,
I have a 37 gallon with aqua light Pro 150 MH/2x antinic. I did have a problem with heat. my tank would be 5 degrees over the room temp. I got the Azoo 4 unit model for 40 bucks and now the temp of my tank is 1 degress below room temp. I keep my house at 78 and my tank is 77. No expensive chiller needed. |
