How can I distinguish a juv. blueface from a 6-bar?
For a few months I've been eyeing a juv. blueface (?) at the LFS, but as it grows it is looking more and more like a 6 bar. a The fish is about 3-3.5". I thought I'd seen full adult bluefaces at 3 inches before. The eyespot hasn't started to develop and the is no yellow patch between the eyes.
A month ago the shop owner was sure it was a blueface, but now he is not too, sure - neither am I. Is there a definitive way to tell the 2 apart?

To me the definite sign is the yellow bar between the eyes. At that size it should be easily visible. I've id many bluefaces as juvi's that were listed as Koran at a quite a few LFS over the years.

At 3-3.5" if it looks more like a 6 bar, its more then likely a 6 bar. I have a 3.5" 6 bar and he is fully changed, at that size the blueface would be too.
blface, the yellow bar between the eyes is on a juvi blueface? My 6 bar has a blue bar vertically between the eyes. |
