TDS reference
I have a TDS pen that I have had by Hanna for quite sometime and it works fine.. but I was wondering if anyone has a good reference for using it.. I believe that (if I remember right) that 1 gram of sodium chloride desolved in 1 liter of distilled water will give me 1000ppm reference. Anyone have any info on calibration solution..
Thanks Phil |

might have figured this out myself.. dah
if my sg is 35ppt then that would be 35000ppm therefor if I dilute it at 100:1 then my ppm would read 350ppm, probablt 50:1 giving me 700ppm would be more precise.. ?? |

Well,it's not quite that simple, but it is close. There are actually a lot of TDS scales.
Diluting seawater is not a suitable way to get a reference, nor is it a good way to measure salinity. The NaCl standard is an OK one, if that is the scale you want to use. This article describes TDS scales and standards (and everything else ): What is TDS? http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...ture/index.htm
