healthy sardonic dose
I read this entire thread ... (and most of pbarrett's other posts... heh) and it was... like reading The Globe but without actually spending money on it. About that ridiculous, and amusing at the same time.
Speaking of vegan animals though and following similar 'logic'... I have a born again christian friend that states that animals did not sin until after a & e got booted from the garden. Thus meaning, they did not kill one another for food sources. Me: "So.... you're really saying, that tigers always had sharp teeth for grass eating? " Her: "He made them all different. They didn't have to eat grass, but plants." So really, the ethical burden can be lifted on us aquarists. lol Harlequin Shrimp are sinners, and are choosing their own fate. |

So if we raised starfish for the specific purpose of feeding them to shrimp, that would be ok? And what about the poor vegetables you are eating, what about their feelings? Who are we to say which beans get eaten, and which ones allowed to live out their full life, to make little beans?

I'm sorry but I just can't resist....
This is a picture I took while visiting Bejing China. The starfish on stick as something the kids over there look forward too like lollypops over here. Unethical? Waffleman |

Ok, Ok, Ok. Half the posts were flaming/mocking. 1/4 of the posts were trying to understand the purpose of the original post, and 1/4 of the posts were side thoughts and commentary.
BAM! Up to date again!

Wow, coming in really late here, but so my liking meat is killing the reefs? And what research is there out there proving this?
Or was that what GreenPeace was doing when they hit the reef with their ship?

I eat meat and keep harlequin shrimp. Excuse me while I self-flagellate.

Personally, I find keeping harlequin shrimp more defensible than eating beef and salmon on a regular basis. |
