Injured Porcupine Puffer
I'm not sure what happened, but I've got a Porcupine Puffer with a badly damaged eye...here's what i know.
My sisters tank sprung a leak this morning, and they had nowhere to take their 3 fish/multiple snails to try and keep them alive, so we moved them to my 20 gal quarantine system, hoping that we can keep them alive long enough to get a new system established sufficiently to return them to their normal tank. We got the snails, 3 fish and rock out of my sisters tank and transferred to my house, and we placed some of the rock in the tank for hinding places, and places for algea to grow for the snails to feed on, then acclimated the fish and snails and placed them in the aquarium...stress coated the tank, and watched the behavior of the new inhabitants. Initially nothing seemed wrong...the fish were acting just like they had in the previous system, and several of the snails began foraging almost immediately. Over the next about 6 hours nothing seemed to have changed, all 3 fish were acting normal, and snails still active. We just ckecked the tank, and the Porcupine Puffers right eye is now damaged....what caused it I don't know. He is also acting like it's serious in that he's not his usual active self. If anyone out there has any ideas or suggestions on where to go from here, i'd really appreciate it...I'm not looking forward to the idea of having to tell my sister that I lost her and her husbands favorite fish . thanks in advance for any help. |
