does live rock die?
I have about 30 lbs of live rock, but a cheap flourescent light. I'm planning on buying a T5 soon. One of my rocks has sprouted a bunch of small feather dusters. Will the live rock eventually die? will the new light bring new life out of it?

It will die if dried out, not without light.

Like said above, The rock wont die unless it dries out, isnt in saltwater. There will alsoways be bacteria in and on the rock as long as its in the tank.

I have seen tanks where LR is the only filter--no mechanical filter to remove particulates--have a problem. The rock eventually "suffocates" from the gunk in the water. Use a filter sock. R

I just moved a tank from a freinds house and it has been in very fresh water for a long time not being cared for and I am hoping I can get it to come back.

The rock will become live again after a few weeks.

Liverock actually refers to the bacteria that colonizes the rock, not the critters. The critters are just gravy. Or nuisances, depending on your point of view. So as long as you keep it wet, it will remain "live", provided of course, no extraordinary negative consequences.
