Bad news everyone!!!!! Today is water change today and when I went to empty the skimmer, it was full of pink skimate I feel so taken advantage of. Dr. Mac said he doesn't know of any of these corals being dyed, but why else would I have pink in my skimmer and the one pink one is melting away. What a waste of money. I paid $98. a piece for these. I'm a very sad girl.

That's a HUGE shame! Atleast you have a gorgeous and happy organe sun coral to enjoy. Maybe the other ones will pull through as well.

Hopefully Dr. Mac will be a good vendor and help you out in some way.

Dr. Mac e-mailed me today and I believe he is sincere. He has also said he will replace the coral with my next order. Here is what he said...

Sorry to hear about the coral falling apart. I received 3 of these at the same
time at the beginning of this week, you got 2 and the 3rd is here awaiting
shipping and doing well. These corals are not dyed that I am aware of. I have
kept a few over the years and never had one lose its color and that is not
typical of a dyed coral. I have sold several over the years as well and never
heard a complaint about them being dyed. I suspect that if a coral such as
this for whatever reason died in a tank and its tissue fell off then you would
likely see bits in a skimmer, does not mean it is dyed. Also, pignments
certainly could be released I suspect in a coral that dies and that does not
mean they are artificially dyed, case in point is the neon green Spaghetti
leathers, they do not ship well sometimes and I have gotten them in when the
coral has died in the bag and bits of fluorescent green pigment are floating
in the bag and the water is a bright green color, but the coral is naturally
colored and not dyed. I have a local cutomer that has gotten a couple of these
sun polyps from me over the last year and called her today and she reports to
me that they still have the same coloration, also not how a typical dyed coral
would react. Again, I am unaware of these being dyed, I do not think they are,
and am sorry that you lost one of them. I will gladly replace it on your next
order.
Thanks, Mac

I believe him. I have no reason to doubt him. Lets just all cross our fingers that the rest of the coral pulls through, pink or not.

Amanda

You must train your sun polyp to open at the time you feed the rest of the tank. It does not take very much time as mine opens around 5:30-6pm every night just after feeding the fish in the tank.

Thanks , I do too. They have become good freinds, they are almost always side by side. And they both eat from the same piece of seaweed on the seaweed clip together.

Tony, is that xenia? That's HUGE. I also see your hammer that you thought was dead at one point is doing very well!

Yes the hammer took off, has way more heads on it now then before, and is even dripping onto the rock and making a new section. The PomPom Xenia kinda grows outa control, I have to remove a stalk or two every couple months. I recently added a fuge with chaeto, now xenia are growing a little slower or maybe its just my imagination, I hope they are growing slower.

Amanda, is there some sort of soda bottle you could put the top-half on the polyps when feeding (squirt inside the bottle with a turkey baster) to prevent your other critters from getting to the polyps?
That's why I said you are the perfect girl for me cause you're beautifil and you like reef tanks.(sorry just had to say it)

Amanda, sorry about your coral.... it's terrible to lose anything, especially something that costs so much. Hey Kayla I can give obarrera some compitation.... I have a 15 yr old son (step-son) who will be 16 in Nov. we keep telling him that in order to talk to you he would need to learn a bunch of stuff... he stays in his room alot cause he says all we talk about is fish stuff. lol... He's a good kid, I'm gonna show him your pic .... Maybe you can get him interested in our awesome hobby ?? hehehe

Good news! Tonight when I went to feed the fish, all my sunpolyps were closed, but by the time I finished feeding the fish, all my orange polyps were open!!!!! AND, my pink ones, that are still alive look like they will open tonight!!!!
I'm so excited!
