Mazda3s are fun fun fun to drive! My g/f has a blue mazda3 4 door and it's a great car. Of course it would be nice to have manual and a turbocharger, but you can always bolt one on later

I'm talking "everyday driver" dream car here! At least the Speed 3 is a wagon! I had a Mazda Protege for over 10 years and loved it, I've eyed the 3's for a while now and had one as a rental a while back...it was a great car for a base model too.

I'm sure I'll end up getting the air intake and tweaked exhaust too...it'll put the Speed up to 290 hp! That little car, 290 hp, 6 speed tranny...wish I could have it before next year!

The one on eBay is the color I want too...it's very subtle...not a "cop catcher" like those red or yellow little speed demons!

pea-shooter turbos! lol, hopefully this doesn't turn out to be like the mazdaspeed version of the Protege. that was sad. it looked really nice, but all mazda did was put a turbo kit on a stock motor and slapped some emblems, etc on it.

I bought 2 (one for me and one for the wife - then g-friend) Proteges. Drove them each to 200,ooo miles. first traded in 03 then the other in 05. Both got sold for ac problems. They drove great. Mazda makes some great cars. I was debating between the mazda 3 and mini cooper in 05. The cooper won.

well as of right now the speed 3 is the fastest frontwheel drive car on the market. It even tops out higher than the speed6. The 6 only has it beat in the take off due to its AWD. The Speed3 is definately well worth the money. It is nothing like the old mazdaspeed protege. Get one if you can!

I'm tempted to go to the dealer to drive it. But then, I don't think I could walk away after that...have to wait til next year.

I loved the feel of the 3 I drove while my PT Cruiser was in the shop after hurricane Wilma. I can only imagine how this one must drive!

Here's a little blurb about it:

"The MAZDASPEED3 is a pure enthusiast's dream, made for the performance buyer who wants it all for a price that doesn't take it all," said Tatsuo Maeda, program manager for development of the MAZDA3 series. "Sport-tuned exhaust, turbocharged motor, MAZDASPEED sport independent suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, unique roof spoiler, sport-inspired interior—the MAZDASPEED3 delivers a true driver's car."

Mazda's are great cars, you might wanna check out VW's they handle great and in general have a smoother ride. I had a GTI, I loved it. A few of my friends had them as well and switched to Mazda and are kicking themselves, on long rides they really notice the difference.

Smoother ride, who wants that? If I could stop buying corals I would get some stiffer springs. And that Pettit Racing supercharger...

jds

PS: RX-8 driver (conversation went Mazda, couldn't resist...)

That's true, but only after the conversation wound up a bit, couldn't jump in at the start with no bottom end

Just to add my two cents in. I just picked up my new Civic 4 Door SI Wednesday night and I have an original 78 RX7, serial number 72. For those who know Mazda's, the RX7 started in 1979 but mine is from the first test run and titled as a 78. Many of the engine parts for the early RX7's do not fit my car, I used to use parts from the RX3 and4 and I was a founding member of the RX7 Club of America.

Get the Speed3! Hands down the best bang for your buck! CX7s are sweet too. can't believe I was driving a 4Cyl. Really moves. They have struck a gold mine by boosting the 2.3l It has revamped their Zoom-zoom philosophy. Speed6, Speed3 and CX7 using this motor. Try pricing out a Similarely equipped GTI. Well, good luck.

watch out for the mazda speed 3... they have been having some problems with engine mounts breaking... basically if your accelerating hard and you make a rough shift sometimes it can rock the engine so much a mount breaks and the engine drops out... i know ive read of at least 3 separate cases...

i just picked up an 07 VW GTI last week... the 2.0T is a hot engine in an even hotter car....

I dunno - I had it's predecessor, a 2003.5 Mazda Protege5.
Ran fine for 20K miles, then threw a rod bearing. They had to bring in a short-block from Japan to fix the thing. took like 3 weeks.

I dunno - I don't think I do Mazda again.

Of course, a co-worker has a 2001 or 2002, and he's got like 50-60K miles on his P5, so I dunno.

Fluke, maybe?

Tony
