new tank and stand need input
well I finally bought my new 120 4x2x2 from all glass. here is a goofy pic of what I want to do (cats need a place to view fishies too. how do you think is the best way to build the stand? 6x3x2.5 (LxWxH)
once I finish staining the new dining room chairs and clear coating them, build this stand and canopy transfer all the goodies over... my 92 corner will be up for grabs

I like it a lot! Only thing is that I would put some doors on the base so you could get access to everything inside.

oh on the door thing I got 4 2 ton hydraulic rams that are going to lift the whole tank and sump up and out of the stand for easy work at chest level no bending.... now wouldn't that be neet and make for a TOTM

One comment on the design. Having such a large base will make it harder to reach everything inside. Have a ladder? What did you use to create the drawing?

Mel will take pic's sometime soom....
Dave stand will be strong enough for tank adding me kneeling on it shouldnt be an issue but thanks for the criticism and I used Google sketchup http://www.sketchup.com/ Pedro pnumatics and blueprints to follow.... I am thinking of ditching the rams and going to gear and chain drivin screws... less chance of leaking or failure..

In any event, I would think the only way for this to be strong enough would be a steel frame with a wood skin. It would have to be secure and level on all sides so there's no (aaaargh) tipping. The movement would have to be super smooth, otherwise you could spill gallons of water.

dude he's kidding on lifting the entire tank . . . . .
I would go with the tube steel frame and skin it with wood. the amount of space saved is amazing . . . |

Pedro You really think I have the money (unlike Manny thesaint) to do this? You know I was kiddin.... I think I could engineer it but the cost wouldnt be worth it....
and if I engineered it correctly the only flexible thing needed is electrics....

well hey, i forgot to mention it today, my dad is a carpenter, he owns custom crafters, so if you want to build it yourself, let me know what materials you want, i should be able to get the stuff pretty cheap for you.
well, if you want to build the stand. that size i would do something like this. but thats just the frame work. depending on what you wanna do, laminate wise, you can go to my dads shop and see samples of hundreds of shades, textures and styles from all the top brands. or if you wanna really 'pimp' your tank, the solid wood finish or you can do plywood veneer which will give that wood finish for a much better price. for your doors you can do a raised panel door like the ones all glass sells. just a door made of the same material the stand is finished with. or you can get finished doors, much fancier, lol. for the top of the stand i dont recommend wood because if water gets underneath it, well im sure you know what will happen to water sittin on it *ouch i would say use corian as a top. you can get lots of finishes with that as well, similar to granite but synthetic. much cheaper lol. and of course its nice to fit styro under the tank for even pressure.
