I don't have a current pic of full tank shot so I'll post a pic of ORA A. Tort. before and after. The before was taken when I first started feeding the "pappone".
I have also switched from 400w xm 10k to Reeflux 10k..

Before

after

I've never run any 250's but I really like the 400's. Also using the lumenarcIII. I only run a single light over the tank. It's 36" long and I have great coverage.

My formosa now grows more then 2" a month. I don't know if this is much for a Formosa...
I just upgraded my lighting this weekend, maybe there will be more improvement. (250 Watt AB 10K DE) Had one, now double.

Is it safe to take a poll here on how many reefers are using more then 250 watts bulbs? I shte 400 watts the norm to achieve color and growth?

I use 1000W MH Ushio 20K lamps. Corals love them and the tank looks really good.

Probably would be a good poll to post here in the SPS forum. However I really think it depends on the depth of the tank really.

Many italian reefer's use intense light, most use HQI 400W and others like me use 250W.
Before you were talking about the tank of a very good friend of mine, Aster. He uses 2x400W and 3x250W plus 4 Pl 24W blue on his tank 220x75x70cm.... he uses a "simple" classic system with tons of food, he owns an awesome tank.

Danilo Ronchi is another friend, till 3 mounts ago he was using 2x250W PFO like reflector, now he uses an ATI 8x54W T5 on a 120x50x50cm tank, also he uses only a "simple" system.

Bye
do they all recommend BB? some of the photo's have dsb. what is the most successfull for them? i have a 135 gal, 3 x 400W MH's.

Absolutely !!!!!
the 400 watt are not not even comparable to the 250 watt, are for the best increase, than for the best coloration....obviously if it is as an example had a system with a good reflector (like lumenarc the III) and one good electronic local p0wer source (Ice CAP...) and 10 000k (XM as an example) i even turn out to you are without a doubt interesting!
above all if high bathtubs are had...as an example mine (prepared from 1 month...) it is high 70 cm, and therefore the 400 watt was of obligation...
many Italian bathtubs, perlomeno those beautifulst ones and with large colonies, mount the 400 watt....only little have the 250, having however splendid it turns out to you!
but if one can allow the 400 watt, best the 400
Thanks for the help
Michael

I think he meant something like this:

Absolutely !!!!!
The 400 watt ones are not even comparable to the 250 watt, for the best growth and coloration....obviously a system with a good reflector (like lumenarc the III) and good electronic ballast (Ice Cap...) and 10 000k (XM for example) it will without a doubt turn out very nice!
Ontop of that if the tanks are high... As an example mine (setup for 1 month) it is 70 cm high, and therefore the 400 watt is required...
Many Italian tanks, perlomeno ( leastwise? at least?) those beautiful ones and with large colonies, mount the 400 watt....only few have the 250, all having however splendid results!
but if one can afford the 400 watt, 400 is the best.

Hopefully I didn't butcher the language too much
