New To Skimming
First skimmer I’ve owned. Been running for about a week in a tank that is almost 5 months old. Dropped it in the back chamber of a 29 gal tank. Not sure what‘s the correct way to operate it. Any advice appreciated.
Should it run 24 hours a day always? It is making foam and generating dirty water. Will it just keep foaming and possibly pull out too much? Or will it reduce automatically after the level of dirt decreases? I’ve heard the phrases “skimming wet” and “skimming dry”. Is this how you regulate how much dirt gets pulled out? By the depth of the cup? A bit confused by the process. Thanks for help in advance. |

First of all I would start looking for different mods you can do with the pump (switch pumps?) to get better skimming from it.
CPR use to use some pretty puny pumps with their skimmers. |

They must have upgraded their pumps. The thing is scaring me it’s pulling so much brown water out. I don’t think I would want it to pull any more any faster. Maybe my cup is set too low in the water?
Still looking for more knowledge on this topic. |

Your cup is too low. You might want to find a way to raise it by .5"-1". I had one a while back and it was skimming really wet too. I'd tried using pins, clips, etc and they always end up falling inside the skimmer. It was a pain.
I haven't try this yet, but you can try to restrict the air line so less air go into the pump. You need only enough air to get really fine bubbles. Too much air can produce big bubbles.

Got any pics of the skimmate? I'm a fan of skimming somewhat wet.
