cold weather affects RO output
Just a reminder that cold weather affects RO production (in case you haven't already noticed).
OT - what's your favorite Christmas music? I like Manheim Steamroller and Larry Carlton's collection of Christmas music. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass are right up there, too. My former guitar teacher George Collichio also has some nice holiday music available on disc.

Yup, forgot about the Cold weather thing, and realized it this morning when I couldn't figure out why my RO/Di unit didn't produce the same ammount as usual.
DUHHHHHHHHH Thanks for the reminder Gary Jedi

Tip:
Replace the tubing that leads from your cold water pipe to the unit with a 25' long piece. Coil as much of that tubing inside a 5 gallon bucket and fill the bucket up with water so the coils are submerged. Put an aquarium heater in the bucket and set it to 78° F. The heater will keep the bucket water at that temperature, and that water will warm up the water traveling through the tubing to your RO/DI unit. Production rates will jump back to normal. Good tip. Anybody else have the Harry Connick Christmas album?

Sorry Gary, not much into Christmas music... for that matter, not much into Christmas.
However, on the topic of RO filters... I spoke to a tech guy at Kent Marine about the reduced product water output and was informed the production can be cut be more than 50%. That puts an end to the weekend water change marathons! ri |

Have yourself a heavy metal Christmas with the *****-Siberian Orchestra. I have no RO tricks. Strange double thread we've got going on here.

I have a 40 gallon storage container that I keep RO water in. I just bought the parts to add a heater and coil the water feed through the container. This should fix things.
I like the bucket idea, much simpler, but with my luck I would either knock over the bucket and/or the water would evaporate and cause all kinds of issues.

I really like the idea of using the sump to warm the supply water. I'll have to give that a try.

No RO/DI tricks but Denver and the Mile High Orchestra is a jazzy group with a decent Christmas CD.

Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, eh? Never heard of that one...
Running the RO supply line through your sump sounds like a good idea as long as your aquarium heaters can handle it. Double topic threads are alright. I still have one guitar, Willistein, but I rarely get a chance to play it. I just finished listening to a T-r-a-n-s Siberian Orchestra CD and it certainly makes me want to play along with it.

My RO input goes through a coil in the sump as well.
Also remember that 50% reduction in output can be a 400% increase in waste water.
