Your best bet is to give him a PM here on Reef Central. He checks while he's at work (and I'm surprised he hasn't chimed in yet)

Chime chime, I saw this this morning but actually have work to do today for once. Will be hit or miss all day.
How many did he release this time?

Papa, he actually released many but we were only able to catch 4. Saddest thing we lost the female a couple days ago and had no idea he was holding eggs. So they were a true matted ORA pair. We have the tiny babies in a holding pen and are hatching baby brine. Do you have any other advice? Its greatly appreciated.
I also think my male seahorse is pregnant so we may be going through this again in a few weeks....ugh LOL

Lot's of brine....feed them about 3-5 time daily for awhile, once they start getting large enough to feed on smaller mysis bits and eventually full mysis , then I'd cut it back some. Since you only have the 4 babies I'll let ya in on this little trick: DO NOT STARTLE THEM! Bangaii's, especially the little babies, are very prone to whatever "shock syndrome" they suffer from. Forgive me, I don't remember the official term, but basically they'll simply drop dead and quit breathing. Induced with loud noises, sudden and bright lighting, stuff like that. I've lost so many to this . If it happens, get a baster or something to gently start a current right at em, let the water pass over their gills and try to keep em breathing. I've heard of them pulling through while doing this, but it's never worked for me, just prolonged the enivitable. It's so sad.
And another thing, if you have any macro algae, cheato or red grape algae works great, throw some in for em, it'll give em a place to hide like they would with an urchin. If ya got a long spined black diadema setosum, that would work even better.

They host naturally in a diadema setosum, but anything that'll give em shelter, they'll attack in a heartbeat. They don't see that great once released so if it's dark and they think it'll protect em....
I've seen my babies hide out in all sorts of things, it's like clownfish hosting, they'll host in darn near anything, lol. But you're correct, I wouldn't use a tuxedo urchin, no spines long enough for them to hide in, I doubt they'd even pay attention to it. AFter all, those babies that were in the same tank as your tuxedo didn't even look at it the whole time I babysat him for ya.
