Question for DE retrofit MH users:

I installed a hellolights 2 x 250 W halide and 2 x T5 retro kit into my hood. I mounted the halide filtures directly to the wood with no insulating material between the wood and aluminum of the fixture. So...I have noticed that the top of my canopy gets quite hot, amost too hot to leave your hand on the wood for very long.

Does anyone else have this issue, does anyone use insulating material between the fixture housing and the canopy hood? Any help is appreicated.

Same situation here...
I just installed Hellolights 2x250 MH & 2 PC's in a tight configuration within my new canopy. I used 2 Eye bolts per fixture and hung them from threaded coffee cup hooks that are screwed into the top of the canopy.

This created a space of about 1 inch, but the wood above felt like it was going to ignite. So, above each fixture, I jigsawed a big hole for the heat to escape. Each hole is the same size as the holes I cut for my 120mm fans that blow in. I was worried about the appearance, but after using a brown marker to color the edges of the holes they don't stand out at all.

Now with the fans on low, all the heat goes straight out the top. You can reach in and touch the wood and it's completely cool...while the MH fixtures are blazing hot.
