Definatly an aiptasia. I would inject it with a kalk mix using a plastic turkey baster, you can also use boiling water.

They spread pretty quick so you need to act fast, try using the search feature for more information.

Yeah, thanks visualscapes !! The thing that gets me is the tank has been up for about 8 months. This is the first one I've had. Could have it been hiding just waiting to surprise me, or was it imported on a piece of coral (It is nowhere near any of the coral that I've added.)?

Peppermint shrimp will sometimes eat aiptasia, some will just overlook them. It is a hit or miss situation. They prefer the smaller aiptasia over larger. I have never had much luck with using kalkwasser, chemical agents on the market or hot water. Pieces of the aiptasia will still be imbedded within the rock when using these methods, thus causing more of a problem - more aiptasia. The best thing I have found to really control them is a nudibranch - berghia verronicas. They are sometimes available at a nearby mariculture facility where I purchase my livestock. The hunt them down and eat all of the aiptasia. Unfortunately, after the aiptasia are gone, the berghia will die. They are nocturnal. I found it best to raise them in mason jars and place a dozen or more in your tank to control large populations of aiptasia. It does work, but you must have patients to let the critters do their job. I have had mixed success raising them.

Might be a bit big for a peppermint shrimp. I would kalk it with a medicine doser and airline method.

I just got my first aiptasia this weekend, also.
Luckily mine was on the glass so it was easy to get rid of.

Are they like 'roaches? If you see one, you KNOW there are a LOT more hidden from view?

Yup, if you see one, there are most likely more to follow, unless you have a natural predator. IMO
I went for years without seeing one, then my decorator crab died and they started popping up. I never saw it eat one, but it just seemed to be more than a coincidence.
