PG&E is making me go broke!

How do I know if my Chiller is still as efficient as it could be...my bill was through the roof last month and nothing is different other than I lowered my chiller 1 degree from 81 to 80degrees.

Wow. Our chiller hasn't run in weeks. Do you have a heater that failed in 'on' mode?

Our tank is 75g w/same light rig as your current tank description. I'd be curious to put a kill-a-watt on your various equipment to see where the draw goes.

I did the same thing,(lowered my temp), and it seems to be running a lot more. But its hard to get the girlfriend to keep the thermostat in one place, to see what is causing it.

However, its probably a combination of that, my lighting, a Mag 7, a skimmer pump, 3-820 Seios, 2-1500 Seios, and another Via aqua pump in combination to the tired/small chiller doing it.

Not too mention saw my fan condensating and dripping some nasty drops into the tank......can we say copper wirring??????

Im feeling you man......

Thanks for telling me that I made the right decision to leave it at 81. why did you guys decided to lower your temp. I run mine on a swing from 77.5- 81 right now. Do you think it had to deal with the completion of the inwall. (BTW, it turned out really nice).

I have a kill-a-watt you could borrow.
It will tell you EXACTLY to the penny what each device is costing you, or your entire system...

LMK..

My power bill in October was $475 and I'm on SMUD so I don't EVEN want to know how much that would equate in PG&E!!!

Granted I have some massive servers and such running along with 4 tanks so......

You guys are insane. I would definetly not have a tank if that were the case.

My bill before we started using the house heater was about $130 went up to $220 with House heater.

I have a 60 gallon cube with chiller several Phs Koralis though so they use no energy and my return pump is a OR3500 which is more effiecient than a Eheim 1262

That's just about where I'm at. My avg. summer bill is right around $350-$375 and winter is about $225. This is with a 90g 2 x 250w and 50g 4 x 96w. Neither tank requires a chiller...just 2 4" fans(which haven't been on much of the day for the past couple weeks).

Holy crap bat man.... 675!!!! Well.. I have a 120.. 400w halides, little giant return, dart CL pump..... sedra 5000 on the skimmer ect. I never use a chiller. Just fans at the sump and hood. SELDOM get a power bill over 250 in the summer. Its always lower in the winter than summer.

Small 4 bdrm house.

Ya'll don't even want to know what I pay - and I am so scared what I WILL be paying here soon enough. the Kill-a-watt is a nifty device - will let you monitor what your appliance is using.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

With my 90g, my electric bill still averages below $100/mo (higher in summer, lower in winter - 1500 sq ft house w/ 2 people and SMUD).

I don't know what the heck the rest of these people are doing to rack up the bills they have!

(unless my meter is broke.... shhh!)

I would be checking your equipment,I have 8 tanks and my reef with hallides and my bill was around 200.Now that I have moved and had to put my 300 in the garage temporarley, the bill has went throught the roof. But mine is from the heaters in my 300 in the garage,I had to cut them back to only having the heaters on at night otherwise they were running all day and night. The fish are a little cold but seem to be doing ok with it,

Yeah I think I need to figure out which piece of equipment is killing me.

Steve, let me know how I can borrow that meter from you so I can identify the culprit.

My electric bill for November was $500, which was $100 higher then October...which made no sense whatsoever.
