Need info on Ghost Pipefish ASAP!

If anyone has had experience in caring for ghost pipefish, such as dietary needs, tank size, etc., could you contact me ASAP via private message. This is urgent, and needs to be handled immediately.

TIA,
Brock

I didn't do anything, lol. My LFS got some in, and he knows that I know a lot about seahorses, so he called me. Well, I went down to see them, and they are actually...guess...

Regular dragonface pipefish...idiots...

Easy enough mistake. I learned this weekend that there are somewhere near twenty-three species of dragon face pipefish.. amazing diversity. Even got to see first hand a male holding eggs. Pretty cool fish.. makes me think I might want to take a stab at them!

just wondering, how much would one of the ghost pipefish retail for? I see that they would probably do best in a larger reeftank 150 gallon+.. what other special requirements are needed to keep one of these? I will be getting one this weekend that is why i ask for all your help.. thanks in advance

I've yet to hear of anyone keeping a ghost pipefish alive for more than a couple of weeks. Anyone else?

i've never heard of anyone keeping them for very long.

anthony, is he coming to your shop this weekend? personally, i would round up every live critter i could find (live mysid, penaeus vannamei (newly hatched napulii to week old), tons of pods) for this fish. gut load live feed with beta glucan and some type of green algae (chlorella, spirulina) to boost immune system. you can try cyclopeeze but who knows if he/she will take any.

nice pipefish!!It looks like a harlequin ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus).Thats amazing that its eating cyclopeeze. It appears to be a female, you can tell by the large ventral fins. For a host I would say maybe a feather star but it should be fine in a low current tank buy itself without a host. Have you added him to the main tank yet? how does he swim around or does he just drift?
sorry, just a little exited.
keep us posted.

thanks for the proper ID bro.. he is in the one of the main tanks where a lot of corals and live rocks.. fairly low current, tank volume is approx. 350 gallons.... its seems to like to hang out around the red grape cleurpa patches.. and the way he swims is like shifting from side to side and up and down.. pretty much stationary.. the pictures was taken while i was acclimating him so i can capture more detail shots..

Just curious, where could you get something like that? I have no plans to try to keep one anytime soon, but I've never even seen them for sale.

Not to far from you Renee, it's off the 60 freeway. From where your at I think it's the 110 to the 60. Just a couple inches on a map. It's surrounded by Whittier and Diamond Bar. Ever heard of those.

skinychinaman, it is a male harlequin ghost pipefish. Good luck. Be sure there is LOW current and no anemones.
