whoops, meant to post in here
Just finished doing some rockscaping on my retrofitted eclipse 6. My P. ciliata used to get along with damsels, but has since decided she likes sushi after all. |

Thanks folks. You're right about the cleaning angel, it's a bit of a pain even with a scrapper thing. I think ill look into getting one of those dish washing deals that i read are great for tank scubbing.

I use a Marineland Emperor 400 and I have a mixture of Seachem's Renew and Phosguard, along with some Matrix. The phosphates that don't get sucked up by the Phosguard get sucked up by the Macroalgae (along with nitrates). When it gets to be too much, I just pluck some out and give it to friends or throw it in my display tank refugium.

Hey Dismalorb
I use almost the same method for my O. Scyllarus tank. Hang on back with polyfilter and phosguard are the only other means of filtration besides macro's and a aquaclear 30 for circulation. It works very well ,almost to well as that I harvest macro almost weekly. I do use reef trace every now and again. It's like a stand alone fuge which I think is very helpful with the problem algaes. You see any pod depletion in your tank B/C of your O. Havanensis pair? |

Oh nice! How big is your O. s.?
I haven't noticed much of a depletion, really. There's more in there than in my display tank refugium though! hehe. I feed Selcon soaked Hikari Krill every other day as well. The havenenses (plural spelling?) go nuts every time they get fed, so I don't know if they snack occasionally on the pods or if they're food snobs and just prefer krill from the Krill God. I must admit though, I do feed my pods. They get either a tiny shaving of Cyclop-eeze or a cube of the Hikari Spirulina Brine Shrimp every other day or so. I do think that the macro-algae does wonders for the excess nutrients in the tank; I RARELY get algae-outbreaks!

Hey Dismalorb
Yeah I guess I should do a lil more to cultivate my pods. My O.S is about 5inches or so now. I'll throw some pics up very soon. The tanks doing great need some pics before it gets a lil over the hill. Jk |

I really like that idea! A local (fellow mantis geek) friend of mine has a similar set-up with one of her HOB filters. It works great for her, and isn't too aesthetically intrusive.
The DIY mod is a much more economic route than those silly $300 HOB refugiums... "DIY to the Rescue!"
