Black Algae?

well here's the story, I have a 20 gallon tall tank with 2x28watt PC and 2x15? watts NO's. Growing on my live rock, is some kind of algae that is black. nothing really wants to eat it, even when I place my turbo or astrea on it. I can scrub it off, but it grows back. Any idea what this could come from? Or how I could rid of this? Any help would be appreciated.

Brandon,

Are you sure it is an algae? I have what I thought was a black algae growing on my rocks, but on closer inspection it turns out it is a sponge.

Sorry, I have not found any suggestion as to how to get rid of it.

Griss

i had a small outbreak of black mat like
algae on my sandbed,it had the same
characteristics as red cyano, which was also
in the tank(40 cube),when i finally beat
the red,the black disappeared also.

thanks guys, I'll have to look at it closer and see if it's a sponge or algae. hopefully I'll be able to get rid of whatever it is.
