OT: Printer Q

Ok so I do a moderate amount of printing for friends, around holidays ( I make some greeting cards, and do holiday letters, etc) anyways my printer that I loved, Brother MFC 3420C just decided that last night (11:45 ish) when I needed to print something decided it would have a VERY expensive error, and I think It would be better just to get a new printer. It needs to be color, and I would really like it to be under 500$,
any suggestions???

Thanks!
ps I was looking to steer away from brother, but go to HP, and a laser printer would be really cool!

What your looking for is prolly out of my league as far as printers go, but I have an HP Photosmart 8250. It uses the new 5 color inks and prints out glossies just like a photomat.

I just saw this one, a little more than I want to pay, and it weights 80 lbs but looks really cool! lol!
hey michael how is the dell working out for you? I have only had cannon, HP, Bother, and a few older ribbon printers.

Whatever you do, do not get lexmark. Never had a decent product from them. I like Epson but they tent to break quite bit. I use an HP printer and like it quite a bit. Those are the only brands I have experience wtih.

I have the Dell all in one printer and I like it I use it for my colored prints and I use my brother HL-2040 for black and white. Dell came with computer and got the brother B&W for $60 new at staples when they were on sale couple months back. Mine was in same price range as michealaz if I had purchased it out right. good luck

The HP All in one Printers are really good.
I have a HP PSC 2355xi And it prints as good if not better than our HP8000 Solvent printer at work which cost about $30,000.

Just FYI if you are researching printers make sure to research print cartridges as well that's where they will get you:0)

All printers have their pros and cons. Depends on your usage. Speed, quality, etc.. If you looking for good deals, here's a link:

Hope that helps.

We get almost all of our printers from buy.com, they always have good prices and they have a very good reputation in my experience.

Also, if you create a new Google Checkout account for every order, you get $10 off. Last week we got 9 HP1020 B&W lasers for $65 each.

HP 2600n for $279 w/ free shipping

Part of my job is being a consultant on hardware purchases, the 9 printers went to a few different places; two are sitting under a desk still, some went home with people, most went to replace inkjets. Lasers are finally affordable to the point where I wouldn't recommend an inkjet to anyone unless they needed to print in a vehicle (Pentax thermal), needed to print on photo paper with a low budget (Canon PIXMA 6 color), or wide format and vinyl printing.
