My 29g Reef Project (Pic Intense!)

Hello...

I been researching for about five months now and finally the project has begun. Hope you enjoy!

Any advice or feedback would be helpful.

I was recently under the username, mtown, to anyone who finds the pics familiar

The first three pics are my 29g stand's framing. I used 2x4 spruce wood nailed together with 3" wood screws.

The last pic is the framing all covered up. The 29g tank is resting on top. I used a very cheap type of plywood which cost me about 17$ for a 4x8 sheet. I got exact pieces cut by home depot which cost me NOTHING! even though it costs 1$ per cut. The doors are made out of 3/4" MDF wood which hardly matches the rest of the stand. The trimming was 1x3 maple wood nailed in with finishing nails. I also filled up gaps & holes with a small bucket of wood filler and putty knife.

Currently I'm staining the stand with a 2nd coat using the superior miniwax brand stain so I'll update you with new pics pretty soon.

Thanks for the remark Lagger

About equipment I'm still researching and deciding on brands. I'll keep you posted on any decisions I made and any equipment I bought. Also livestock decisions will be made once I get all the equipment I require, but I know for sure that I'll be getting 2 percula clownfish

Here are some updated pics on the stained & finished stand. Is it just me or does it look blotchy even after using miniwax pre stain conditioner. Anyways the color is 'antique walnut' according to the Miniwax Polyshade 2in1 oil-based stain container.

This is a pic of the 10g sump tank inside

it's just the pic, lol. I also noticed it looking uneven but in reality it isn't. I'm more worried about the blotchiness of the stand

Wow, you have a lot of material in that stand. Could probably park a car on it. Overbuilt for a 29, but nice. Definitely should be sturdy. Better to be safe, I suppose. Looks great so far. The blotching adds character. Don't worry about it.

I knew the materials were an overkill, but then if I were to sell the stand the overkill would encourage someone to buy it

Also thank you for the convincing remark on the blotchiness I guess it's alright

Will be drilling my 29g tank's backwall to fit in a 1.5" drain and two 3/4" return bulkheads. I'm ordering the diamond drill bits from ebay. I will also be dropping by home depot this weekend to buy wood for my canopy, so stay tuned!

My canopy construction is still in progress. Here are few pics of whats done. I used 1/4" multiple plywood with some leftover wood pieces I used as the inside framing. Its quite the simple design and nothing spectacular. I still have to fix up the nailings, add the 1"x3" trimming and obviously stain to match the stand.

Canopy closed

Canopy opened

I think the canopy is a bit too tall for a 29g. It is 12" in height. I need opinions from people. Thank you
