I feel violated

pic is from Sammamish, WA

OK people post the price in your area and how much you pend on gas a week

$2.69 p/g
$40+/- week
$160 /month
$1920 /year

I work 17miles from my house, some of my co workers work 50miles man do I feel bad for them.

Remember the good old days when drinking water cost more then gas.

got gas Sunday for $1.99, Monday morning it was $2.35. THAT is my problem. I don't mind inflation, that's life. It's when inflation happens overnight that ****es me off.

I pay about 1.97 for regular (but I don't buy it). I put 93 octane in for about $2.30

The gas station by my house no longer takes cash, they only take precious stones and metals.

Here it's somewhere around $2.40 - $2.60 gallon for 93. It varies that much within a quarter mile at major brand stations. I guess with the constant flux, they're having trouble keeping up with eachother.

Luckily I bill the vast majority of my work-related miles, and the standard rate has gone up nicely in the last year or two.

A car pretty much identical to this one. Except I had my rear underspoiler center painted to match the body color. That black centerpiece does nothing for me..

Ah I see, what does the manufacturer recommend? On my truck it says 89 and that higher grades may cause knocking and pinging. But there is a gas station in town that is cheaper then everyone else, and if you have a "perks" card you get 10 cents of per gallon of 91. The price of the card.... free. But he doesnt advertise it.

My uncle is a mechanic and he told me that just about every car on the market is built for 87 octane.

Higher grades won't cause preignition. They won't help anything though, unless it's a brand that puts cleaners or other additives in the higher grade(s) but not the lower one(s).

In modern vehicles, lower grades shouldn't even cause pinging - knock detection systems should, in theory, retard the timing enough to prevent it - though you'd be dancing close to the line and losing power, for sure.

That's not really true. Modern cars that have higher grades reccomended can usually handle 87, but you'll certainly be operating outside of how the car was designed to behave - essentially, the car's ECU will be in an error handling mode the majority of the time.
