Hi all, just spent the weekend recapping the adventures of Tim! How good is this tread!!!
Anyway I have a question to pose,
how do the mantis mate, and has anyone managed to keep more than one in a tank?
Surely if this is possible, there is no more desreving mantis than Tim.
This could spawn an entirely new chapter in the adventures of tim the super mantis,
or maybe he'll just see her as competition and there'll be trouble, not sure.
Has anyone had experience with this?

All hail, the Lord-God-Almighty-of-the-Ten-Gallon-Tank Tim! May he be merciful to his humble subjects and bring swift justice to his enemies. (I just read this thread for the first time. Great story! Thanks for all of the hard work!

He is single and grumpy for it too apparently.

He's almost always looking for "companionship" as well. *grin*

His roommates still don't last very long though... I think he's really picky. He does take all of his roommates out to one last dinner though, before... parting ways.

Tim's doing really well, but I know it's close to the time I need to buy him new "friends." He's taken to swimming to the surface to look directly at me before demanding food now.

He doesn't seem very pleased with the last few feedings of inanimate food either...

LOL

While Tim's domain does have several types of small anemone and zoanthids, most of his kingdom is covered with various macro-algae.

In that picture it is mostly the purple scrubby stuff and some spongy-feeling caluerpa...

Aside from providing him with garden space it also helps his "roommates" to survive a bit longer... sometimes even for days.

Regarding food survivng longer:
Glaurung (my G. Platysoma) is always looking at me when i wake up. His tank in near the foot of my bed, and he stares at me,like the cats...wanting food, perhaps?
I moved over there a minute ago,and there he was, at the tank's wall, right in the middle of 2 snails and next to 3 hermits, ignoring them.
Then, he shot back into his hole and stuck his head out, waiting to be 'drop-fed'. He will completely ignore the snails.hermits until I scoop one up in the net and drop it over his head,so that he can catch them, and then the smacking begins...wierd.

It seems Glaurung may be much more talented at training humans than Tim is...

Partings ways?!? is a "way", Tim's euphemisms for exoskeleton?
cuz I've read this thread a few times and Tim has parted more "ways" than I can think of.

DenstinyMan,
Zoanthid collector (gotta catch 'em all)

Do you have a tread on Zoanthids?

Thanks,

Densityman,

I've been following your thread and Tim is very cool. I just noticed today you are from Indianapolis, I'm from there and my parents still live there! What part of Indy are you in?

B.

Tim does part exoskeletons more often than not when parting 'ways' with his roomies... *grin*

I've posted on many zoanthids threads in the past, but have no specific thread I've created to document their antics. This is due in large part due to their complete lack of antics, aside from opening in the morning and closing at night.

Tim and I are both on the near Eastside of Indy. His tank is almost always a little farther East than I am while inside the house. Near the intersection of Emerson and 16th.

Still want to chronicle the complete (short) story of Darth Crab (Tim's last roommate), but keep running out of hours in the day. Maybe this weekend.

In other news, Tim is still looking for new playmates. He has most recently been introduced to zoanthid-eating nudibranchs (to clear out the ugly zoanthids I place into his tank as punishment for being less-than-spectacular). He has show no interest in having them for dinner or over for dinner even...

Also looking at reaquascaping his abode sometime soon. He's shown a new interest in the water's surface recently, so I'm going to build up the back wall a bit and see what happens. Give him a little more sand-area to hunt while giving my new places to plant ugly zoanthids and algae.

That's all for now though...

Enjoy.
