Is this acanthastea?

Hi y'all,

This coral was sold to me as red acanthastrea. I really don't know what it is, though. Can someone id this? It is a very fast growing coral.

Looks like it might be... But you'd probably have better luck in the LPS forum darlin'... I'm not quite the professional some are...

I don't think it's a favia because it's cerioid. Do you see the shared common wall? It's more like a favites or Goniastrea than a favia if it belongs to a faviidae.

Look like favia, goniastrea or montastrea but its quite strange to have fast growing.

Really tough ID, definately a conversationaly piece though! First thing that popped in my head was favites pentagona because of the geometrical shape of the coralite but a real shot in the dark at that. Think you would need to send that off to the lab for a positive ID, otherwise your guess is going to be as good as anyone elses on that one IMO

This is not in that Genus... its a Faviid.
