id on this pink stuff
Hello again..I was checking out my tank earlier when I noticed this pink stuff all over some rockwork and some of my aquarium's glass...
and here's another pic... One more.. I know it's not coralline algae, because it's soft and fleshy. Any ideas?

man that almost looks like a type of sponge growing on there... how long has the rock been in the tank?

The rock has been in the tank for almost 3 years...that's why I thought that it was strange that it just started appearing from nowhere it seemed.

Looks an awful lot like sponges to me.

agreed... it is sponge. A common and hardy variety at that. Do enjoy, but know that it is flaring now because of available food. Your nutrient levels have increased (recent situation like the addition of more/new foods like phyto, or simply from the tank maturing but the water changes being too weak/light, etc.)
The sponge itself is not bad, but any sudden increase in its growth indicates a potential problem with DOC levels, etc. It would be curious to see you do a (Salifert) DOC test. Cheap kit and good perspective.

ok, I will see if I can find a salifert DOC test kit around here. It is suprising, but I don't think any of the fish stores around here carry it though. The DOC is the organics test kit? I want to make sure I get the right one.

yep... quite correct. Many online merchants carry it if you cannot find it locally (glad to hear you trying the LFS though!). See if they can simply order one for you. Most LFS get supplies weekly (several times even) so you may only have to wait about as long as MO would take to deliver it anyway.
Champion is but one of the MO sellers of the organics test kit.
