Emerald Crab - may need a new home

hi Everyone - My husband is bringing home an emerald crab tonight to take care of some bubble algea etc...

If I recieve my TBS soon I will have plenty of food for this guy after he has taken care of some of my pesky algeas... but if My wait is too long I dont want the poor guy to go hungry.

So - After he takes care of my algea I would like to offer him to you guys.

My Husband is picking him up for 10 bucks at LFS... I'm open for trades - frags whatever....

I will be calling TBS to get a idea of when to expect my rock - depending on that and How fast the guy cleans up my tank I will have him available at the april meeting and/or frag swap.

Let me know if You'd like to adopt him - and if he still needs a home by the time the meeting comes around we can work out a trade.

Completely uninformed suggestion sure to be refuted by experienced aquarists:

Could he subsist on some nori in the rocks until the TBS arrives? It's an algae.

do you think so? I dont want for him to be hungry.

I'd much rather keep him then get rid of him - but I doubt my tank will have enough food to sustain him after he tears through the mess I have now.

any other thoughts on appropreite foods I can feed him until the TBS comes?

Mine ate nori just fine. But he also ate coralline algae, so buh-bye. It took mine a couple of weeks to clean the hair algae off of one 5-lb rock, FWIW.

Better stay away from my polyps. I sure doubt he'll starve.

Mine's been eating nori for a month now. I don't have much else in the tank, so I amuse myself by target-feeding the emerald.

Ours ate nori as well. Use caution, though, emerald crabs can be opportunistic feeders (small fish beware).
