4th one down is Acropora Tenuis. I am using an Olympus 3meg camera. I had to work with MH lights and the simple macro settings on the camera. But it worked.

1st pic is a Tricolour Acropora species (probably from Marshall Island, because I have another that is from the same region and it looks similar)

2nd pic is a Marshall Island Acropora Aucleus (purple/blue)

3rd Acropora Millepora Baby blue tips with pink base

5th is Acropora Millepora that is Purple/Blue. The picture doesn't do it any justice.. trust me. I would call it grape Millepora.

You Canadians move in flocks...like Geese! Dead bird...doh!!

Anyways, nice shots! How many shots did it take you? I have to throw out about 100 to get a couple decent ones that aren't even that good. I'm not spending thousands on a camera that I could spend on livestock. I can always get some other geek to come take pics.

Hahah Serioussnaps, I hear you on the geeks part. I am not a good photographer, but it took me 1 shot to 2 shots to get those pics. I had 10k lights illuminate the tank, and then I picked the individual corals up toward the water surface. With a bit of patience, macro setting on the camera, and standard flash mode, the pictures came out.

I will do some more tonight...

Please remember folks - you do not need an expensive camera to take good quality pictures of corals in your aquarium, you just need to learn how to use the camera you have.

Any chance of a full tank shot, or a few more pieces from your tank?

I wholeheartedly agree. I can take some great pics with my Fuji F30 - retail $250. The macro settings on the compact cameras are quite good.

I know people using $1000-$3000 cameras that can't take pics of tanks at all. I don't think people should be disillusioned to think if they buy that new Canon 30D or Nikon D200 that they are guaranteed great photos. Far from it. You still need the skills to make great photos. Having an eye for what you are shooting is key. Knowing how to adjust your camera when things are underexposed or overexposed is much more important than what camera you have.

By the way, those are some great shots Atomikk!

atzak, its a digitada with purple polyps.

Thanks for the kind comments people. I will take more macros if I can tonight. I want to capture a good shot of my Solomon Island Superman Montipora Danae.

Its tough to do a FTS since my tank is 6'x3'. Might have to take them in parts and mend them together.

Those are great photos, not to mention that they are done with a P&S and only 3 mp. Goes to show that MP rating is for the most part marketing hype, unless you are printing bigger then 4x6.

They are very impressive photos...
