There is one drawback however the sponges inside need to be clean, very clean or they turn into a nitrate factory.

Excuse me if I'm wrong.. Buy won't that over time act like bioballs??? And start exporting nitrates back into your system? Also how will you remove the detritus build up over time.. Seems to me it will act like a pre-filter, with need to be cleaned weekly... You have a great looking tank going, but this pices of equipment has me confused...

Maybe the water is filtered before going through it. Just a thought.

I highly doubt Deltec would manufacture units that will leak nitrate into the system. ok now my tank is a nano compared to this...keep the pics coming and very impressive job..

so are sprinkler heads the same as a wet/dry filter?

Yup, just like a wet dry with bioballs.. Only larger, better have a very good prefilter inline and change often... They used to call them spray bars. They need to be cleaned regularly or they will clog up.. Make sure the size of the intake line isn't larger than the spray bar holes or they will clog up sooner....

I'm going to see how these sponges turn out. Wet/Dry stuff is more popular here in Europe but I'm not a big fan though. I like the sprinklers on the return and it's simple just to remove the sponges and install a cooling system instead if it gives me grief.
More pictures ! When I got to work today they had already lifted the tank inside. Damn them since I was going to shoot video of the event. Thankfully a coworker had a small camera to take some pictures of the lift. On the bright side I didn't have to watch in a stressful anguish ... gallery here The stand should be here tomorrow hopefully. I ordered a truck to ship it yesterday and I'm in some transport queue. Haven't heard from them today so I guess it won't be here till tomorrow. |

sweet pics this is no normal private tank.
reminds me of shutinys thread a bit. wet dry is persona non grata around here... is the skimmer inline before the spraybars? if so that skimmer should be a good prefilter. also are you planning on using filtersocks of any kind in the returns? |

could anyone advice on the cool efficency of deltec eco coolers. By how many degrees can you lower the water temperature this way? Seems fairly limited.
Can't wait for this build to progress, truelly awesome. Damn it now I want a bigger tank and I haven't even had mine delivered yet.

what are the plans for lifting the tank onto the stand once it arrives? you must have ALOT of strong freinds!!, that would take a mass amount of beer and pizza if I called everyone up and said, "hey, I need you to help me lift a 1000lb. 1500 gallon tank"

10 guys would lift that easily.
100lbs per guy. Lifting it evenly is the tricky part.
