RO question
I just hooked up my RO unit. Its a aqurasafe....or aquareef....welll aqura something... Ive got it hooked up to the sink, and was wondering what everyone does with the waste water. I Hate just to send it down the drain. Seams like a huge waste. I mean the water goes through most of the unit, and is then just wasted... Just dont think that very cost worthy.

I ran a line to my drain for my wash machine. I have heard of people storing it and watering their plants with it

You could use it to water plants or a garden. Some people use it to do laundry, I've heard. But you'd probably need a holding tank to save up that much water. Wash your car, maybe..? Pretty much anything that doesn't require clean water.

lol, good point. Just didnt think that Waste water thats been through a RO system, that comes from my tap could be that bad.

Well, consider that you've now taken all the junk out of 5 gallons of water and put it into 4 gallons of water. It's basically become a bit more concentrated. Although... now that I think about it, a bunch of it's bonded with the carbon blocks, and some of the larger items are filtered out. You know... that's a good question. It might not be that bad. I wonder if anyone else knows the answer to that...

The waste water is actually a brine version of your tap water. it's full of the waste that the RO membrane pushed aside.
I wouldn't drink it, but there are lots of other uses as mentioned. Wash your car, water plants/flowers, wash clothes. I suppose if you wanted to get really serious about it, you could boil it and bathe in it  I have the luxury of living in an apartment in which the water is a set amount included in my rent. |

well i ran some of the waste water throught the britia filter jug i have. And i still wouldnt drink it. LOL It really dosn't taste verywell.

Has anyone used it to top-off an inground pool? Especially during the summers here in Dallas, I lose quite a bit of water to evaporation each day, and I have it hooked into my sprinkler system for auto top-off.
I probably won't do it as running the plumbing would be a pain, but just curious. :-) |

I used to drink it, but, yea, not anymore. I have it rigged up to where it goes into a large holding container, and I use it to flush the toilet, it is amazing how much the toilet actualy uses! Well worth the extra effort.
