Project 150 gallon had officially started
well i finally did it,i got a tank that i feel i will be happy with for years to come.the other day i was at FAOIS and saw a 5'x2'x2' custom acrylic tank with external overflow.it didnt take me long to figure out i had to have this tank.i know it isnt the cube i wanted but the cube would have been very intrusive and take up lots of floor space.that and the price was almost to good to pass up.so i purchased the tank and brought it home.
tank specs 5'x2'x2' 3/4"acrylic top to bottom flow will come from 2 darts, one will be the return pump and the other will be a closed loop.between the 2 darts i should get around a 40x turnover rate. lighting will be three 250 14k aquaconnects and two 48" vho actinics i will use my current 40 gallon sump and add my old sump for my refuge. i will have to buy a skimmer and im thinking a euroreef rs180 will be fine(if need be ill recirc it) one other big buy for me will be a new chiller(not sure on size 1/4hp or 1/5hp) i am going to use my current calcium reactor to supply the CAL/ALK i have looked at mike(mflamb) and chris(cjgalante) tank setups,i plan on copying them to an extent as they have nice plumbing layouts.my clone OM will be placed up top like mike has on his 390 and my drains and returns will be similar to how chris has his.i have also looked at chris's stand design and will do something similar since i have to build the stand. here are some start up pics of the tank here you can see it has wavebox cutouts already in the eurobrace the overflows twin 2" dursos(i need to cut down later) and the new dart

That's a nice size, same as my Oceanic only you have the bonus of no internal overflows. Go with the 5' actinics, they will just fit in the hood with the endcaps.

can anyone tell me if a 2x6 can hold the weight of my tank over a 48" wide opening.id like to have the front of the stand have a 4' opening for easy entry.the tank will be weigh about 1500lbs with water.

Instead of the Durso you might want to look into the bell stand pipe its a bit more effective, I found it on here but I know you can google it too, unfortunately I no longer have the link to the webpage.

2x6 on the end will handle that weight easily, without even needing a verticle support..
